Gay marriage legal in both Alberta and Sioux County, Iowa. But currently not San Francisco.

Seriously, just ponder that for awhile.

I can hardly imagine how unpleasant it would be to be married to a person of the same sex in Sioux County, Iowa.

That's because the Iowa Supreme Court ruled same-sex marriage legal, while we in California had a stupid referendum that barely passed because enough stupid people were convinced that same-sex marriage would destroy the world.

I'm assuming these counties in Iowa are really conservative?

You are quite correct in assuming that. Sioux County routinely votes R>80%.

And it hasn't voted Dem in any presidential election since it voted for the Warmonger in 1936.

Don't give Californian gay rights the benefit of the doubt, please. They're among the worst in the country. Assuming they don't postpone a 2012 prop 8 repeal (but it's very likely they will for BS reasons), they can be 10 points ahead before election day and screw it all up.
