Anything which helps the current government avoid being overturned is good.  Those Reds are lousy - democracy is the death knell for personal freedoms.

Opebo - opposing rights for the poor and oppressed as long as he's merrily exploiting them.

Certainly, and also don't forget that 'democracy' doesn't give them any rights, just the illusion of rights (case in point, USA).

Disappointing. The oligarchs won, once again.

Why, because he doesn't like Thaksin?

Why, because he doesn't like Thaksin a corrupt, vote fraud running media monopolizing douchebag?

Upper class coup d'etat against the impoverished masses is preferable?

By the way, what's your opinion on Chavez then?

Why, because he doesn't like Thaksin?

His argument elsewhere is basically that one should always side with the poor who should be allowed to use any means to pursue their political agenda. That doesn't really rhyme well with opposing Thaksin, no.

I don't like him. I used to but then he became a douche with all of this censorship and the kicker was when he started restricting alcohol sales.

Yes, but wouldn't that make him more real rather than a fake poster? Thaksin doesn't exactly hold much appeal to an American expatriate in Thailand.

The answer is, gentlemen, that my hypocrisy is precisely the best evidence that I am 'real' (all too real, alas.. feet of clay, don't you know).

Okay, at least you're consistent.
Although of course both the anti-Chavez-opposition and the coupists in Thailand are by no means better democrats than their particular opponent.
And in a conflict between two halfway democratic movements, I'm usually showing solidarity (not unconditional of course) with the side that is supported by the poor.

And the kicker were Chavez' alcohol politics? Come on, there are more important issues, especially in Venezuela.

Again, that Opebo is a hypocrite isn't that much of a big deal. I kind of disapprove of being all moralizing over other peoples' behaviour when one does the exact same things oneself though.

What bothers me more is the extent to which he is idolized by so many left-wing posters here as a champion for socialism. Because that is pretty stupid.

Whether it makes sense to idolize them or not, many of the early champions of the revolution were hypocritical, whore-going scions of the upper-middle class, Gustaf.  In any case, the whole point of the leftist critique of the capitalist system is that it doesn't matter one whit what any individual does.

But why do you then constantly harass people for the choices they make in their personal lives?

I only harrass people for poor taste in their personal lives, not for personal political actions.
