Too early to tell! He'll take a pummeling from all sides, so we have to see if he can handle the pressure.

This, basically, though if Romney takes an excessive pummeling he'll tank. Anyone watching the debates would see that at times, Romney would lose face very easily when attacked.

I think that he is certainly one of the Republicans' top contenders. However, I would have a major problem with him as my nominee. He governed Massachusetts from a very liberal position and only became conservative when running for president in 2008. Now he's the next Reagan. I would be excited to see him beat Obama cuz I think he can, but as far as supporting him in a primary I couldn't. He has what it takes to win the center though and the experience to show the nation.

I concur. He can win more of America in the GOP primaries because he can consistently win outside the South.

I assume that the comparison to Ronald Reagan is said in irony.

In the Democratic National Convention in 2012 Romney will be accused of flip-flops.  Here is the supreme irony: had he run as a moderate in 2008 he might have shattered the "Blue Firewall" and won in a near-landslide similar to what Obama got in reality. America was ready for a genuine reformer even if that reformer was a Republican.  In 2012 America will already have a genuine reformer who states his case very well and has a superb political organization.

He is more qualified than any other short-list Republican nominee. Unless Obama fails as President, Mitt Romney and anyone else will have a difficult time in any effort to beat him. Romney has little to offer that Obama doesn't.

I actually agree with you, but wouldn't be comfortable with his stances on issues in the past. Politicians change positions from when they run for office to when they govern and he'd be linked to that notion. My comment about him being the next Reagan was sarcastic, but hopefully he will prove himself.

Depends, he has a good chance to. As much as I hate Romney he's a lot better than Palin, Paul and all the other libertarians (fake and real) that think they're the next coming of Jesus and will save the country with their glorious wave.

Really, how is Romney better than Paul? You're a fan of ObamaCare, I take it?

At least he flip flopped out of that position and won't go back to it. I don't agree with Paul on pretty much anything. Though I'm not going to talk to you anymore because nothing I say will really matter.

That is true, if anything Romney has come to the good side on the issues unlike Kerry who has gone back and forth his whole life. Plus Romeny would never have Al-Qaida attorneys working in the white house or apologize for our hard-earned wealth and success.

Mitt Romney: Thoroughly overrated and overestimated.

Run him and watch Mitt win 100 electoral votes, maybe.

Oh I think he can do it. He has the best chance to beat Obama even if his popularity came back.

I think it depends on the flavor of the election. Mitt Romney was, in hindsight, probably the best option Republicans had to take on Barack Obama (in November 2008). That may have changed since.

Still, Republicans love to support the guy whose turn it is, regardless if they're the right man for the job or situation. As such, I concur with the following:

Computer brain says.... Republican nomination 75%.  Presidency 25%.

Though maybe closer to 1:3 than 1:4.

Romney has some problems, but what potential GOP candidate does not?  The field is flawed, which is why in substantial part the conventional wisdom is that Obama, despite whatever problems he may have, is a fairly heavy favorite to win re-election.

Romney can also say we've learned from my mistakes in the past what not to do. Therefore, he'd never put Romneycare through the federal government.
