My great-great grand kids will grow into a world where the euphoria of tobacco smoking comes from a tiny tablet that dissolves on the tongue, I'm sure.

I started slow one year ago, and didn't have a single cigarette between November 9, 2009 and March 1, 2010...so it's not like I've been a lifelong smoker...just better to quit now. Word to the wise for President Obama, too.

Good for you. Your lungs, and the lungs of those around you, will thank you.

I like smoking, and I like it when people smoke, but just nipping it in the bud is definitely the best decision. No matter how much I've tried in the past 4 years I haven't been able to totally stop. Even when I've "quit" I'm generally still smoking one every couple days. When I'm not in quit mode then it's up to a pack a day, and my lungs and throat feel the difference.

Hopefully you can do better than I have.

Good for you. You probably have just increased your life expectancy by at least a decade, if not much more.

It boggles the mind that people start up in the first place.

Good luck to you.

But, Joe!  Didn't all your friends surround you and say, "C'mon man, what're you, chicken?  All the cool kids are doing it?"

Oh, I forgot.  That only happens in John Hughes movies.

Good luck Reaganfan.

I myself have been trying to quit smoking as well.  I haven't smoked in a month (which is a long friggin time for me to not smoke) and I stopped smoking because during Spring Break I was staying at my friends' parent's house which they were trying to sell and I promised my friends I wouldn't smoke the whole time I was there.
Since I was a heavy duty smoker (there was one week where I averaged 3 packs every two days) I had to be on nicotine patches the whole time.  However, I was a stupid noob and waited until three days after I last smoked before putting on the patch, causing a very strong case of nausea plus the change in altitude (I went to Colorado) really screwed me up the first time I put it on.  After two days of using it I got used to it though, but that first week felt like hell.  When I got back since I was too brokeass to afford 7 weeks of patches a friend of mine who was also trying to quit hooked me up with some nicotine gum.  About a week ago I stopped taking the gum and have been going cold turkey.
Now it just feels so much easier to resist the urge to smoke than it was a month ago.  It has not been easy, not at all, and I would be a fool if I thought that I will never smoke again because chances are I might.
I'll admit, when I first started on this I thought "screw you guys when we get home I'm smoking some reds" but I have to admit that ever since I've stopped I've felt a strong peace within myself that I haven't felt in some time.

That's just my story.  I hope you are able to nip this in the bud before it becomes a habit like it did with others.

Same here, except it's a total lie in my case.

I've never smoked tobacco though.

I have to say, why were the best times when Democrats were popular and winning? Honestly? I mean...2006-2008 was awesome for me while my party went down in flames...and yet the worst times occurred when a Republican President had a 90% approval rating, and now things suck when we actually have a President I hear people bi*ching about who is a Democrat.

Re-elect Obama, I guess...
