Speaking as a formal soldier yes, there is a chain of command that he didnt follow. He could have easily been court martialed for dereliction of duty, disobeying a lawful order, conduct unbecoming and even mutiny, which is punishable by death in a combat zone.

Derrick explain to me why Mcaurthur would have been a good president, he was hated in the military because he was a back stabber,is it because your so pro-war as long as someone else has to fight it?

The point im making is we have different rank structures than germany, there not called field marshalls.

 I think it was just a bluff just like the threat in Vietnam, I actually believe the  only reason we used them in WW2 is we wanted to see what they would do.
