And I'm supposed to believe that a Bloomberg candidacy would hurt the Republican candidate that badly?

I'd like to meet the 1% of people who would vote for generic republican against Obama, but for Obama against generic republican and Bloomberg.

and the dems won't outnumber the GOP by 4 points. Rasmussen does it fairly with the exact proportion of registered voters making up the sample.

In actual Ras polls, I think that the gap is +- 4 % in favor of dems and in 2012 it's possible, and probable, that dem will outnumber rep by 4. But not in 2010 midterms elections.

Don't be so sure. Believe it or not, there are still moderate Republicans out there that will be rather miffed about whatever far-right extremist the tea party carries to the nomination. Bloomberg could fill that void, similar to the Anderson candidacy of 1980.

I find it somewhat amusing to see "Generic Republican" polling so poorly in this current atmosphere.

Even more amusing is that "Generic Republican" is Obama's most formidable opponent.

That's a pretty weird definition of "Moderate."  I doubt most moderates around the country are big into campaigning to ban trans fats and guns and whatever other crusade Mike's on at the moment.  He's something of an extremist in his own special way.

In that sense, he may also be able to siphon votes away from the Democrats.

The Republicans don't have an actual candidate who will do as well as "Generic Republican."
