Isn't the whole point of being an independent to not prefer either major party? The Democrats are slightly less worse ideologically than Republicans, but equally worthless for reasons of their own.

Prefer could mean "Which is less awful?" or "which are you more likely to support?"

I figure the CAGOP is somewhat better than the CADEM, though I utterly despise both national parties.

I guess I favour the Democrats. It generally breaks down to the issues; I think there are many fine Republicans out there too.

Since I am officially an Independent, I'd say Democrats, by far.

I more often than not vote in the GOP primary, but that's because where I live, there will usually be one or more races, such as this year's race for S.C. House District 39, where the winner of the Republican primary will not be facing even a token Democratic opponent in the fall.

I would prefer the Republicans.  They at least have some politicians and candidates that I don't mind.  Ron Paul, Adam Kokesh, etc.

There are some Dems I like and some Pubbies I like.  I was a Pubby at one point, but they grow stranger and stranger to me everyday.  Unless the Dems change dramatically I can never support them...so I suppose my answer is Pubby by default.

edit-I'd rather date a Democrat though.

I've always held a lot more attachment to the Democrats because my uncle, who I respect a lot, is a dyed in the wool Democrat(big union guy). In Virginia you don't register by party, so officially I'm neither. There isn't a whole lot to like about either party. Generally I tend to hang out with Republicans and like them more than Democrats, but when it comes to actual politics, I'm not that Republican at all.

A lot of people would probably like to throw me into the Republican camp. I'm completely in favor of  decentralization and states rights, and I'm also pretty culturally conservative(evangelical, pro-life and pro-gun). I just think my views on social welfare, healthcare, certain social issues, and foreign policy are much more likely to draw less ire within the Democratic Party. If I were in either party I'd be labelled a DINO or RINO, so I think the independent label works well. I like being a part of a group and having a side to root for, but with only two choices that's become harder and harder.

As for dead0man's comment, I'd much rather date a Republican chick than a Democrat.

Edit: I will say that I tend to gravitate toward certain politicians, regardless of party, if I think they're decent people or getting a raw deal from the media. I really like Ron Paul, because I know he's not bought by corporations or a hypocrite. I might have disagreements with him, but I respect him and would certainly vote for him. Personal character and integrity matter to me more than an R or D next to someone's name.
