The Green Party asked Nader if they could put his name on the ballot and he said yes.  He did no campaigning besides his usual speeches which he would have done regardless on being on the ballot.


He did no "running" in 1996, unlike in 2000 where he campaigned and held those rallies in Madison Square Garden and had celebrities and musicians out supporting him.

Nader was trying to test the waters in 1996, 2000 was his first serious election

he wasn't even on the ballot in VA, MI, OH, PA, FL, TX, MO, MT, NH, etc.
