Somehow this thread makes me really glad that I'm living in a country with single-payer.

Yes!  Keep in mind that even if Grumpy Gramps pays the $1,000/person, they really aren't guaranteed access to health care.

Ha ha what the hell? Everything I've had is only for around $100 a month, not that I have any because I don't spend $100 a month on medical expenses anyway so it doesn't work in my favor.

You really should get at least a high-deductible plan.  Even if you don't get very much from the insurer, the discounts they strongarm from hospitals and other healthcare providers will be worth it if you ever get in an accident that isn't someone else's fault. It's not at all unusual for there to be a discount in the 50% or higher range from the bill before they even start to calculate copay and deductibles.

What do you mean 'per person'?  Are you employing people?

In any case private insurance is basically worthless whatever the price, as it doesn't offer any security.

better than the alternative

Who is 'we'?  You mean like a nanny and gardener?  And Cook and the driver?

How will the new intrusion in 2014 effect how you can pay your workers? No one to my knowledge has given that perspective on here and I'd like to discuss it.

Better than the alternative though. Just ask someone who has no health insurance in this country.
