I said other - basically I don't mind as long as you don't do it a lot.

I honestly don't think I've ever done a pure empty quote (unless it was as a joke or part of a long chain or something).

Why is it less acceptable to do the empty quote thing, as opposed to typing out "I agree," and then referring to the post to which you agree?  Or is it infra dig to just express agreement with another poster's comment? I really don't get it. Can someone help me with some of this?

Now granted, an empty quote with 25 others embedded in it is a bit much, but then a post that quotes 25 previous comments, with a substantive two sentence statement, is also a drag, because the darn thing can take up half a page.

You know what I do more and more now?  I just take the sentence of two that I want to comment on, and put it in a quote, not the whole post, and then comment without it showing who stated what I am quoting. I like that, because it emphasizes that what I am focusing on is the text, not the poster, the identity of which is irrelevant. It helps to depersonalize things, and also saves space on the page. Aren't I clever?  Smiley
