Just more proof that the GOP doesn't care about deficits or jobs; they care about corporations and protecting their profits above all else.

It's also pretty disgusting that 34 Democrats voted against this.

There are some odd nay votes in there, like Capuano and Michaud. [I suppose Michaud vote may be based on his districts proximity to canada?]

I fully expect this to hurt Charlie Dent's election chances.

I'm not sure whether I'd vote for this or not.

The Republicans and dissenting Democrats are correct to vote against this terrible tax policy.  It's bad enough that this is one of the few countries that taxes people and corporations on their worldwide income.   This protectionist piece of crap legislation only makes things worse.

Putting American companies at a competitive disadvantage is not good policy.

It's hard to outsource the trees.

But a little more seriously, what does "ending tax breaks" actually mean? Not allowing such companies to claim normal income tax credits? Exempting them from certain tax cuts? A little more detail would be useful here, but I can't immediately get an explanation out of a quick scan of the legislation's CRS summary.

One of the most important reasons that I am still a Pubbie despite the stresses, and there are, is that I believe in most instances in free trade. That and tort lawyers, and teachers unions, and fiscal prudence, are what still anneals me, but probably the hottest button of all for me is when I detect the noisome smell of protectionism. US tax policy is already less friendly to outsourcing from a tax standpoint, than in most of Europe. Under US tax law, certain kinds of income are taxes instantly in the US, even if the profits are not repatriated. I am not sure that is the case in Europe.

And just why companies should pay a penalty by losing tax breaks based on where they choose to fabricate a part of their product escapes me. And I wonder if this violates various and sundry international agreements, including GATT. I bet this will end up in US court or international court if this actually becomes law. It will also probably push down equity prices, which will not help with economic recovery in the US.

That's 204 members of Congress who have complete disdain for the American worker.

Blech, protectionism. Just when I thought we might be free of the notion of some obligation to the "American worker", this comes up.

Why should the government encourage outsourcing? Punishing companies for outsourcing is a totally different thing from simply taking away the incentive to do so.

I too have always been confused by the actual legislative logistics behind this issue.  I'm not entirely sure how you go about proving that a particular company has moved jobs from America to another country in the first place.

so instead of 'outsourcing' some jobs they'll just move their entire operations to another country so they don't have to pay double taxes.

oh the wonderful things these Democrats are doing to help free America from foreign investment and trade!

Well, in some cases it's bloody obvious, like when someone is training their overseas replacement.

I wonder if the Democrats would ever propose legislation that would penalize companies for outsourcing from humans to robots and automated technology.

I'm with the Republicans here, there's no reason for senseless extra corporate taxation when they're already overtaxed in the US by a good deal.

The same couple dozen Dems vote against the party on every vote. I'm glad to take their vote for Speaker, but why are they Democrats? I don't get it.

Because they don't have primaries, and being a Democrat who votes against the party every time places their political brand at about the center of their conservative districts

lol, this could actually reduce domestic US Job Creation.

Protectionism = Counterproductive
Embargo = O grab me spelled backwards.
Dogmatic Pro Worker = The most anti job and anti Worker thing every created thanks to Protectionism, Unions, Trial Lawyers, high taxation, and burdensome regulations.

Counterproductive populism has been the in thing for the Socialist Democrat Workers Party since the age of Jackson. Its in there DNA.

Would you support tax incentives to replace humans with robots? That's what is essentially being removed here.

Right now global demand is weak and thus If these tax breaks are only temporary I have no problem with them, and this is because outsourcing shouldn't increase by much unless demand starts to dramatically pick up.
