Props. 16 and 17 are looking like they won't be able to be called for several hours.

Refresh my memory on what those are?

16 is about making it tough for municipalities to go into the electrical/gas utility business to compete with the legal PG&E monopoly, and 17 is about overriding insurance regulations, that one cannot offer a discount to someone who has insurance with another insurance company, but wants to switch to a new one, because one had insurance (it is legal to offer a discount, if you have stayed with the same company). Mercury insurance put this one on the ballot, and funded it, because for some reason, they are crazy enough to want to insure more California drivers, and increase their market share. Others claim, that it will cause everyone who does not switch to have higher insurance premiums. Where does the truth lie? I have zero idea, and I am not sure anyone else does either. At least nobody bothered to write anything coherent and persuasive as to what the reality is, that I saw. I guess it is just too complicated and boring for the press to spend real time on this one.

The open primary would work perfectly with score voting.

Let's put it this way, if Mercury Insurance poured millions into it, is it more likely to benefit them or consumers?

16 would require a 2/3 vote to allow any public entity to get involved in business involving electricity utilities, so basically an anti-"OMG SOCIALISM" type thing.

17 is an auto insurance backed thing that would allow companies to offer lower rates just to lure in new customers but would probably result in higher rates overall in the long run.

Maybe, they can offer insurance more cheaply, for the previously insured. I am not sure what the rationale is for making it illegal to offer a discount if you are insured but want to switch. A fear of switch and bait as it were?  Anyway, this is all speculation, because none of this was analyzed. Instead, folks just made assertions. But I will ask my insurance broker client about this. It is a fairly large and sophisticated company, with a few really smart insurance brokers, which is unusual in this industry. If they say something of interest, I will let you know.

WTF Nevada, really?  Tarkanian AND Lowden were both great and you chose the wackadoo that will serve one term at best.
Mrs. "Let's fund our health care system with chickens" was great?

Was it a stupid comment based on a stupid idea, yes.  But the context makes more sense than it sounds.  And that's over with anyway, so I chose to overlook that glaring fault.  Relativity should be a general theme when talking about great politicians. Tongue

Does Nevada have a significant Armenian population?  With Tarkanian that's three Armenians involved in the Senate race.

I still don't understand why you like Republican mainstream establishment tools. With your current belief system, I'd expect you to be a Democrat. Tongue

I don't really know to be honest.  I think it's just because I consider politics in the same way I consider sports and I chose my team.  It's fun to root for the Republicans even though I really can't stand about 85% of them because they're my team.  But my voting habits are totally different for the record.  Don't worry about me actually voting for any of these tool-bags, haha.

Who is Sharron Angle?  I didn't hear her name in my life before about a minute ago.

Wasn't the race between Lowden and Tarkanian?  How did she come from behind like that?

The 2000 census puts at less than 0.4%, even though I keep hearing that LV does indeed have a significant population.  Andre Agassi was born here, for one thing.

Crazy extremist.

Wasn't the race between Lowden and Tarkanian?  How did she come from behind like that?

The Club for Growth declared their support for Reid's re-election by endorsing her.  Coupled with Lowden's implosion after the chicken thing and the illegal tour bus donation, and Tarkanian not being able to break through the barrier of being totally unqualified, Angle jumped into the lead about two weeks ago or so.

I heard of her last year. It was between Lowden and Tarkanian. Then Lowden raced ahead of Tarkanian about three months ago. Then Lowden just imploded about two to three weeks ago while Angle got the Tea Party behind her and surged into the lead.

She is pretty far right and makes a lot of gaffes. Harry Reid's choice of Republican opponent you might say.

The Area 51 aliens and rural hookers voted for Tarkanian.  The very few folks who live in Eureka County must not have gotten the memo on Lowden.

John Dennis was nominated to be the sacrificial lamb to Pelosi. I look forward to probably voting for him. Smiley That combined with my side currently winning all statewide Propositions except 14 & local Measure F going down to defeat, tonight actually wasn't that much of a disappointment for me. Granted Campbell lost, but I knew that was coming for a couple of weeks now, so the disappointment wasn't that great.

Once again proving how great it is, San Francisco was the only county of significance to vote against Prop 14.

We defeated it by 10% to boot! For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my county. Cheesy

Strange bedfellows among the counties most against it. San Francisco, Marin, Orange, and Fresno plus some other counties near Fresno.

With 44.3% reporting
Prop 16 has flipped to no, now getting 49.2%, and Prop. 17 is at 50.9%. As I said before, those will probably have to wait a while to be called. For what it's worth, both of these Props are at 47 1/2% in San Benito, California's bellwether.

For some reason, Prop 14's support has begun dropping, down to 57% now. I suppose the numbers don't really exist to flip it, especially since San Francisco County is 100% in now.

The California Secretary of State has a outstanding map feature on their website for the statewide races and propositions. Atlas quality.
