Alan Keyes' 27.05% vs. Barack Obama in 2004.

He's black, so he'll break 40% easily.

He's apparently mentally challenged, unemployed, and has been brought up on felony charges.  He doesn't break 40%.  No way, no how, black vote or no.  F**king Jim Clyburn is throwing him under the bus and you expect blacks to rally behind him?

Not vote.  To the detriment of the rest of the ticket, no doubt.

This could potentially hurt Democrats chances in the Governor's race, too. Anyone else agree?

Over. He should still break 35%. I don't see him making it to November though.

I doubt he makes it to November, but if he does 35-38%, main reason the Governor's race. If no Gov. race at the top of the ticket Dem turnout would be extremely abysmal and he would probably be in the 20's.  However, with Sheheen being a competent Democrat on the top of the ticket (though he won't win) it will at least get enough Dem turnout to get Greene in the 30's.

With that being said if f a halfway competent third party candidate is on the ticket I could see Greene not getting out of the 20's.

If a black couldn't break 40% in the Mississippi 2008 Senate race, I don't see any reason why this guy will.

Not like they had much chance at beating the wunderkind Nikki Haley.

Seriously, BRTD, assuming that black voters will fully turn out and vote for a mentally challenged sexual predator is pretty ridiculous.  Such partisan voters would be no more likely to turn out for Greene than a white Democratic candidate, so the "He's black, so 40%" comment makes no sense.

The Democrats might attempt to rally around Tom Clements, the Green Party Candidate, who might act as the 'Anti-DeMint' vote attracter.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if a big scandal hit Demint, so everybody was being encouraged to vote Green and everybody thought that meant to vote for Greene?

US Senator Alvin Greene baby.

BRTD's comments even look more disturbed now that I've woken up (yes it 6pm, I know).

South Carolina, as a whole, is less than %30 black, that's before we even begin looking at voter registration.

Funny enough, Strom Thurmond's son IS running against an African-American candidate in a Republican run-off primary in the 1st Congressional District in South Carolina

I know. I voted for Scott, but he only got 32% in the first vote and nearly all of the losing candidates endorsed Thurmond. I doubt Scott beats him now.

The DC establishment is unsurprisingly pushing for Scott.

Man, the optics of Thurmond beating Scott are pretty bad.  Scott seems like a down-the-line, principled and articulate DeMint conservative.
