George Wallace denies he holds segregationist views. He insists he has always been a moderate on the racial issue.

When somebody asks him how somebody can be a 'moderate' on a 'racial' issue. The crowd throws that somebody out of the auditorium.

Nixon, while campaigning in Iowa, responds to Bush's attacks...

Mr. Bush, in case you haven't watched the news lately, troops are returning home. It's at a slower rate than we want, but they are returning. My friends, when running for President, you clearly should know what's going on in your nation and around the world and Prescott Bush clearly does not.

Senator Jackson addresses a crowd at Columbia University in New York City:

Quote
Frankly, I fail to see how Governor Wallace can deny holding segregationist views.  He said, and I quote: "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever!"  That seems pretty clear cut to me.

Representative John Ashbrook (R-OH) makes a statement in Cleveland, Ohio. It ends as follows....

As a conservative Republican, I understand the concerns of so many in my party regarding President Nixon. So, I too will throw may hat in the ring for the Republican nomination. I look forward to a spirited debate with the President, and former Senator Bush, regarding our party, and our country. Thank you all and God bless America.

Clearly the solution is to privatize presidential elections.

So, in less than four years, get excited for the 2016 MetLife Financial U Pick The Prez Extravaganza. If you tweet a picture of your completed ballot with the hashtag #ivoted, you could win a trip for two to the inauguration or an iTunes gift card.

At a press conference in Sioux City, Iowa, George Wallace calls Senator Jackson's allegations "outrageous" and "typical of the West Coast liberal elite." Wallace said that his views on Racial Matters were actually quite the same as Jackson's; pointing to both of their disapproval of Racial Busing.

He then proceeds to go on a tirade against the Homosexual Agenda, Affirmative Action, The Liberal Media, and Ted Kennedy's drinking.

The McGovern campaign releases a statement pointing out that, unlike racist challengers George Wallace and 'Scoop' Jackson, George McGovern does in fact support a sensible busing program to promote racial integration.

Senator Jackson gives a speech in Albany, New York,

Quote
Senator McGovern favors busing; he is certainly entitled to do so.  However, this is a man who chooses to send his children to a fancy private school in Maryland, rather than to a majority black school in Washington.  Senator McGovern is a hypocrite of the worst sort; he is denying other parents the right to send children to a neighborhood school, in order to achieve some ridiculous mathematical parity.

President Nixon holds a press conference in Washington D.C...

Americans, I hear your concerns. One thing campaigning has done is it is giving me another chance to connect with Americans and hear their concerns. A top priority in my administration next term would be to bring the troops home. While I'm wary on setting a definite timetable, I'd say 2-3 years, at the latest, when all troops were back. That would mean that troops would be coming home as soon as next year, if not this year. We are committed to the troops of this country and their families. Let's bring them home safe and sound.
