It's so ironic that such an important campaign was dominated by such minutiae.  That being said I think the Swift Boat Vets for Truth will go down in history as the pivotal moment in the campaign.  They knocked Kerry off stride and he has never really recovered.  Since the republican convention Bush has held a lead (albeit a pretty slim one) over Kerry.
