Germany to win the World Cup, though I think I preferred it when we were the underdog that no one thought had a chance.

I had Netherlands to win the cup  before they beat Brazil, can't quit on my prediction just because Germany looked completely badass against Argentina

If it's a Germany-Netherlands final, I have a bad feeling the Dutch will win anyway. Teams that grind out competent if uninspiring victories always beat exciting young teams that everyone thinks will win (see: Germany-Netherlands 1974).

Lief, Nate thinks the Dutch have the better of the odds right now, but that seems to be because he gives Germany tougher matches in the next match rather than the final one.

Assuming that Spain beats Paraguay, that will have the last 4 teams as pretty even.

I have very little faith in Nate Silver's soccer predictions. He predicted both Argentina and England to beat Germany, and didn't do that well in the group stages either.

He rightly had the US at even money against Ghana

They are just useless probabilities fwiw

Er... first team to score in Spain vs Germany to win the World Cup.

The Dutch lose World Cup finals. That is a well established principle that shall be obeyed this year.
You know what a Dutchman does after he's just won the World Cup? He lays his PlayStation aside.

My guess for 1/8 and 1/4 finals :

Uruguay/South Corea (likely) RIGHT
USA/Ghana (likely) WRONG
=> Uruguay/USA (toss-up)

Nederlands/Slovakia (safe) RIGHT
Brazil/Chile (likely) RIGHT
=> Netherland/Brazil (likely)

Argentina/Mexico (lean) RIGHT
Germany/England (likely) RIGHT
=> Argentina/Germany (lean)

Paraguay/Japan (safe) RIGHT
Spain/Portugal (toss-up) RIGHT
=> Paraguay/Spain (likely)

And thus 100% latin semifinals ! Shocked

Well, so I was right for 7 out of 8 matches. Good. Smiley

Now let's go for quarter and semifinals :

Uruguay/Ghana (lean) RIGHT
Netherlands/Brazil (likely) WRONG
=> Uruguay/Brazil (safe)

Argentina/Germany (lean) WRONG
Paraguay/Spain (safe) RIGHT
=> Argentina/Spain (lean)

Now my percentage of succes has decreased to 50%. Sad
However, I'd have prefered to be wrong about Uruguay...

So, Anyways :

Uruguay/Netherlands (lean)
Germany/Spain (likely)
=> Germany/Netherlands (likely)

Netherlands - Germany would be an absolute dream final, and winning it would heal our 1974 trauma.

I will defer to Paul the Octopus's judgement on that game. Which will be coming in tomorrow about 11am CET.

Netherlands - Uruguay 2-1.

According to Twitter, Paul the Octopus has selected SPAIN.

Oh well, third place is fine as well, I suppose.

Spain-Germany: 2-1
