After the Primary season ended, The Trump campaign released Mr. Trump's short list for his Vice Presidential Picks. The list included:

Governor Jesse Ventura of Minnesota,
Former Senator David Boren of Oklahoma,
Former Senator Mike Gravel of Alaska,
Mr. Steve Forbes,
and Rep. Bernie Sanders of Vermont

The Trump campaign stressed that Mr. Trump is looking for an experienced running mate who knows the dealings of Washington, and can help Mr. Trump get adjusted if Trump get's elected.

But, The Trump campaign refused to make an announcement until the Day before the convention began with the announcement of the VP at a Campaign Stop in Miami, Florida.

On July 3rd 2000, The Trump campaign announced it's announcement, and it was not a surprise: Governor Jesse Ventura of Minnesota

Trump's Choice for VP

And the public responded with positive results in the polls, with Trump gaining 3 points from the move, as well as taking the lead in Minnesota.

Gore-167

TBD (Republican)- 134

Trump/Ventura-27

Undecided- 210

The Trump factor is clearly hurting the Republicans, as well as the lack of a clear candidate puts the Republicans in a bad way. Meanwhile The Gore Campaign is benefiting from the division of the Conservative votes, as well as positive support from the prior Clinton Voters. Gore is trying to become the third VP in history to get elected after the retirement of an incumbent. But, with Gore's lack of Chrisma, can he make the lead grow, or will the campaign be a close one the whole way?

Stay tuned and see

The 2000 Reform Convention

The Trump/Ventura Campaign needed a good convention to get their voice across to all Americans, and this convention did that and more. The Perot led convention was a total spectacle, with many celebrities and several politicians from each party.  The main points of the convention were to paint Mr. Trump as an honest and hardworking man, and to make the two other parties look evil and flawed.

Before the Convention, Mr. Trump got an important endorsement from 1996 Independent nominee and consumer advocate Ralph Nader, which was good for the Reform party because
Trump will have less completion in the general election.  Nader went on to speak at the convention, praising Trump for bringing attention to third parties and Trump’s desire to eliminate corruption from industry.

The Convention’s keynote speaker was Mr. Ross Perot, who was the whole trend setter and party creator.  “I passed the torch to someone else to run with, and the man the parties choose was the best possible choice. Mr. Trump, I wish you good luck and I will help you the best I can.”

Mr. Ventura took the podium the day before Trump did, “I have served my country as a Navy SEAL, body slammed evil foreigners, and served my state as it’s governor. Now, I think I’m ready to take the second biggest office in the land. I accept the party’s nomination for Vice President.”

The Convention came full circle on the final night when Trump made his acceptance speech
after a video showing Trumps’ origins and life. “Tonight, I am here living the American dream, and I am glad to be here tonight to accept my party’s nomination to be your President.  America is doing great, but not good enough. We need change from the ground up. We need a president who will focus on his job, and not on his personal life, and a president who does not lie to the American people.  We also need a President that has his whole party’s support, and I have that as well. Now, we must come together and win in November. Thank you all.”

The next convention will be the Republican Convention, which will be a messy convention due to both candidates refusing to compromise.

The 2000 Republican Convention- Day 1

For the first time since the 1976 Republican Convention, there will be a convention battle for delegates. The Convention, to be help in Philadelphia's First Union Center, was going to become a convention for the ages. The drama started a week before the convention started, when two of the important states, Florida and North Carolina changed their alliance to Bush, claiming "Disagreements with McCain's platform". The McCain cried foul, even threatening to bring attorney's into the Frey, but Republican Convention rules allow states to do that. McCain later told his advisers "The party I love is trying to screw me out of the nomination."

The Convention opened on July 31st, 2000 with a speech by Colin Powell. He did not endorse any candidate, but did want the party to unit behind whoever is nominated. The first ballot of nomination began after the speech with the totals as following:

Mccain-1207
Bush-783
Forbes-12

McCain could win the nomination with other combined delegates of Bush and Forbes. But, the Governor is refusing to quit, and looks like another day of tough balloting is ahead.
