Due to the actions of a few lame trolls and some lackluster one-sided moderating, this thread needs to be re-posted:

I find it funny how many of these Republicans who tout fiscal responsibility recently voted to send $205 million to Israel.  Only one Republican voted against it.

I'm fine with supporting Israel.  That money probably keeps the whole Middle East from exploding.

Our support for Israel is a national security threat, if anything.

I disagree.  I think breaking ties with Israel would cause them to act desperately, which could put our troops in danger in Iraq.  I also think there would be nothing to hold Israel back from pushing the arabs out of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

We had a positive reputation in the Middle East before we started backing Israel.  If we stopped treating them like the 51st State, and stopped meddling in the region, the threat of terrorism against our country will eventually go away.  Of course, those who wish us harm will not instantly drop their arms, but the children born in the Middle East today may not grow up to put on a suicide-vest if they grow up in a world where American troops are not on their land, and where Israel is not using American money to fund what it is doing to the Palestinian people.  It is a better solution than dropping more bombs, which only creates more terrorists.

In all honesty, if that occurred there would be crippling sanctions, which alone will spell the end for the Jewish state as it exists (not including the crippling damage done when flights out of Tel Aviv are jam-packed with educated, wealthy, and secular Jews).

At this point, it's more like we're Israel's province, not the other way around.

It is in our national security to interest to prop up a rogue terrorist regime/ apartheid state?

Leaving the nuts behind would not be a good thing. Like you said most of the people who would leave would be rich, educated and forward thinking.

It not an apartheid, terrorist state and its certainly not rogue.  I think the situation in the middle east would be much worse for the arabs if we didn't keep Israel on a leash.

That's what democrats don't understand. If we stop supporting Israel, then Israel would take over their friends to the east.

Yes but not because of us. Because the world would be safer.
