Oh, was going to do Morgan's one, since the preceding one is empty, it's still ok:

IIRC, USA would be the country with the highest rape rate, has to be checked though. If so, seems gun laws don't help much.

Oh, and, on a side note, it's surprising how the fantasy to be raped can be present in some girls. The fantasy, only.

I believe South Africa has (by far) the highest rape rate.

Cute video, and cute quote.

Indeed, I'll have to remove Schiff.

I'm surprised you didn't bold Cahill, though--I remember you had him in your signature once.

That has to do with culture.  Most American women aren't going to carry a gun, probably, but statistics show that those who do carry a gun are less likely to be raped.  Just saying "I've got a gun" or showing it is enough.

Though, trends might be changing.  I used to know a 5'3" blonde girl who went to nightclubs and whatnot, who was packing heat in her purse.  And she was Armenian, too!

I agree with many of his endorsements. I am also leaning towards Reid over Angle. How often do you find two conservatives who support the conservative over the liberal? Tongue

Yeah, it's more of the "emotional argument" type of thing.  This website isn't full of politically shapeless dregs, so it's probably somewhat inappropriate.  The "Gun free zone" cartoon was better.

Kal: hehe.

I believe South Africa has (by far) the highest rape rate.

Well, yes, I should have stayed in the Western world, indeed. In which USA possess the most open gun laws, even if I know it's not a federal matter, stats should be compared letting aside the states who don't have easy gun laws.

IIRC, USA would be the country with the highest rape rate, has to be checked though. If so, seems gun laws don't help much.

That has to do with culture.  Most American women aren't going to carry a gun, probably, but statistics show that those who do carry a gun are less likely to be raped.  Just saying "I've got a gun" or showing it is enough.

Well, that's assuming rapists in USA are totally stupid when they are going to mug, and don't think to take a gun when they live in a state they know people can carry one. And in a rape context, which would include surprise and close physical contact, the guy who offends would most of the time by far have the advantage with his gun, then it wouldn't prevent this to happen, 'at best' you can shoot him when he leaves, but that's assuming he leaves you in good enough shape to do that, which would be less likely since he would have already mugged you.

Gun laws work as much for the offended than for the offender.

Then I'm not sure it's a perfect argument, especially since it would imply a society in which everybody should own a gun.

As for that cartoon:

A sign won't stop guys to carry guns, but laws that prevent it will make it less easy for guys to own one.

Gun laws work as much for the offended than for the offender.

Well, unless you completely eliminate guns from a society (PROTIP: You can't), banning guns will only put victims at risk, by leaving them unprotected.  And, even if an attacker does have a gun, the victim having a gun certainly does even the odds.

Here's another statistic for ya.  Half of home robberies in Britain are "hot burglaries," burglaries where the intruder enters the home while people are there.  A smaller percentage of burglaries in the United States are like this, because burglars are afraid of being shot most of the time.

Not everyone needs to be armed.  If a lot of people have guns, however, that would be a crime deterrent because potential criminals will know that there's a good change they'll be shot.  However, in a city or country where guns are heavily restricted, a criminal may go without worry.

Those laws didn't stop Seung-Hui Cho from obtaining a firearm and killing 32 people (excluding himself).  Imagine if students had been allowed to carry firearms on campus: surely not every student would be packing heat, but if one student had a gun on him at the time, many lives could have been saved.
