Gore/Wellstone-296 EV-49%
Bush/Cheney-242 EV-47%
Nader/LaDuke-0 EV-2%

Wellstone helps Gore energize the Democratic base and appeal to Nader voters, which Lieberman failed to do. Also, Wellstone's charisma helps Gore win over swing voters who voted against Gore in RL because he was too boring.

Bush/Cheney                   301
Gore/Wellstone                237

Wellstone would have been an absolutely horrible pick for VP.  He was so far to the left he would have scared the daylights out of hundreds of thousands of undecided and moderate voters who would have decided to go for Bush because of Wellstone.

The Republicans would have run ads emphasizing Wellstone's extreme leftist views and positions on the issues and told Americans that this man would be just one heart beat away from the Presidency

A clear and solid win for Bush and Cheney.

317-221

A Wellstone pick would define Gore as a man of the Left rather than the Center, while still not picking up many distrustful Nader voters.
