We have currently at any one time at least three threads if not more depending on what is on the floor that together deal with everything that this will be intended for. And due to the restrictions on who and what is to be said and the fact that so few in the current Senate like to talk, that little use will be made of this thread. No offense to Bullmoose, it is indeed a fine idea and few months ago it would have probably had some purpose but presently I don't see it. Now that is not to say that need shall not arise in the future, it does say that it is not presently here.

I'm on vacation until Monday. Yankee, can you run the senate for me? Tongue

Not much to worry about, this thing practically runs itself.

I'm on a family vacation this weekend and will have limited Internet access, so in case I miss the PPT declaration thread, I HEREBY DECLARE THAT I AM RUNNING FOR PPT Smiley

I don't think you can do that. Tongue

No worries. If this doesn't count, I'll nominate BK when the thread opens.

But he has to accept it. Tongue

Now I know why Fritz enjoyed this so much. Wink

The intent of the declaration thread is clear and no other provision for announcing candidates in some other place or by some other means. If you nominate someone else he/she has to accept it (which would be the equivalent of announcing the candidacy).

A couple of things.

One, I'd like to give accolades to Libertas; over the past month I've been genuinely surprised by the dedication he's given this office, his ability to work with other Senators, and the new and innovative ideas he brings forth to discussion. I hope Libertas does not take this as an insult, but he has definitely shown much more zeal for this office than I was expecting of him. Smiley

Two, if other Senators could formally propose the rest of the Executive Branch's legislative agenda two or three bills at a time, to prevent the Anti-Clogging Statutes from coming into effect, that would be awesome.
Three, it's good to see the Senate busier again in general. Good work everyone.

edit- also, thanks again for the reelection as PPT. As always, I'd appreciate any commentary into how I could improve.

Could you give us an update on this situation because right now you will have to pull some bills unless someone assumes sponsorship of them.

Where the hell is everyone?

BK, could you please put the ConCon resolution in Slot 6 or 7 once one of them is empty? Much obliged.

I'm kind of wondering the same thing. There's like, four (or five, perhaps) Senators regularly appearing, and that may be a bit generous.

Enjoy it while it lasts for the number will surely be declining soon.

Just a question here, everyone. Am I pushing things through the Senate too fast? I'm trying to use my activity as an example for others but I'm afraid I'm buzzing past everyone here. Please let me know if there's a problem with my pace.

For god's sake don't slow down. I did that, and now I got both Hamilton and bgwah saying I was piss poor (Who would of thought it possible to bring those two together on something? Wink ). The example theory doesn't really work as that was my first method but at the very least you can say you tried to do something about the problem.

I would oppose the idea of a direct Executive Branch introduction of bills as well.

I would oppose the idea of a direct Executive Branch introduction of bills as well.

Yes, what a horrible idea. A minor change giving the executive branch no direct power but to introduce things for consideration that could increase the activity of the President and Vice Presidents in the future by giving an official means to put forward an executive agenda.

People say they want things to change. People say they want game reform. People say they want things to be more interesting. But how dare we ever propose making even the most minor of changes to under-appreciated branches. Especially since this is, you know, a game. Sometimes you update games, you tweak them, you keep them alive with new ideas or balancing.

I would sell my soul for a mature discussion on changes that didn't involve hysterical ranting or opposition for the sake of opposition. Or opposition that didn't use real-world examples as to why we shouldn't do something on the Atlas Fantasy Elections Game, but instead, sat down with the realization that we do this to enjoy ourselves and the ups and downs of new ideas, instead of knee-jerk reactionary responses like accusing someone of wanting to fashion a "personal fiefdom."

Unfortunately, most of you are uninterested in taking these things maturely, or are too caught up playing along in your little characters around here to care much.

1 down, 11 more to go. I can't wait

Speaking of selling souls, I think I know someone who can help you with that, if you are truly interested in doing so, though I doubt you will get what you want for it. Tongue

Oh, what is that soothing melody? Be that clatter and chatter of the condemnation which I have brought on myself. Such wonderfull and warming a sound to hear, its almost orgasmic, the sensation that such a charming sound brings to me.

You and I, along with many others, have been around long enough to see countless efforts at changing the game come and go. They all die. Atlasia has nothing change except the population numbers, the flavor of the month parties, and who is recruiting the most. We try, and we try, and we try, but Atlasia grows more and more stale and uninteresting. It's why I ran to be Vice President.

Atlasia is going to reach a point sometime where it just dies or becomes terrible uninteresting or more frustrating than it is fun. It's going to reach that point because of people like you. People that, when efforts are made to change any part of the game time after time, will cross their arms and scoff at anyone who even dares to try and talk them down. People who, instead of maturely discussing the pros and cons of efforts to change the game in a rational out-of-character way, destroyed every attempt to liven up the game that came along.

I'm fine with opposition. Badger himself, currently my favorite Senator Tongue, has said he opposes the idea of executive introduction of legislation. I'm fine with opposition that is reasonable. Clearly Badger is not out to destroy any and all efforts at even tinkering with the system. You, however, have demonstrated nothing but that over the last year and more.

It should be an utter disgrace that there are people that refuse, outright, to come to the table to discuss the ups and downs and ins and outs of possible game reform ideas. It should be considered ridiculous to, from the get-go, oppose things and refuse to even talk about them or even simply learn more about them.

I don't know what it's going to take, anymore. Complete collapse of this game? Will that do it for you? When will you be motivated to make any minor change to the current system in any way? When will you ever take the game's interests before your own preconceived notions? How many more proposals have to come and go before you even try talking about the possibilities? I've seen proposals come and go, and I've seen tons of things get watered down more and more and more, and no matter how watered down they get, it's still useless. Eventually we'll reach a point where nothing more can be proposed because it's actually impossible to water anything down anymore.

And I guess you'll be laughing all the way.

If you had the slightest idea what you were talking about you would have realized that typing that post and drawing a distinction between justifications of opposition was a big mistake. I was stating my opposition to the idea. The official debate has yet to start on it, and I was in a hurry at the time, even more so then usuall, and was not able to describe my reasons. But since you have so graciously maligned me for no purpose, I don't beleive I will oblige you with an explanation untill it actually comes up. How ironic that you misinterpreted a situation into being something and your response to that nonexistent situation has ended up creating the very situation you condemned. Congratulations on your extroadinary excersize in futile counterproductivity. I hope you enjoyed the experience because I certainly have.

I'd like to congratulate NCYankee on his reelection to the office of President Pro Tempore.

For administrative purposes, note that AHDuke is Dean of the Senate while NCYankee is PPT (since Duke is the second-longest serving Senator).

Does he get a car, driver, security detail and plane as well?

And also:
Order of Seniority
NC Yankee
Ahduke99
Bacon King
bgwah
Libertas
AndrewCT
Barnes
HappyWarrior
Snowguy
Eraserhead

This is the proper order of seniority, correct? I put the names in order of seniority in the PM's if you guys haven't noticed and if anyone is out of place, please let me know.

Kalwejt, the below bill has serious flaws. The first of which is that it is title "Repeal of Privacy Protection Act" yet its text is repealing the repeal of the privacy protection act, in which case, such should be reflected in the title as "Repeal of the Repeal..." or something. Tongue

Secondly the bill establishes the precedent of the absence of a law existing as being in contradication, when this is not the case. The mere absence of a law doesn't create a contradiction. It just means there isn't a redundancy. Lastly, I don't think there is a requirement the Atlasian law provide enforcements that double on enforcement of Atlasian administrative police. Baiscally you are claiming that not only most Arizona pass its immigration law but that if it doesn't it is in violation of Federal law if the State doesn't actively and agressively enforce federal law.

Repeal of Privacy Protection Act

Considering that a Repeal of Privacy Protection Act (F.L. 34-3) is contradicting the higher power of Dave and rules, set by him on the entire forum, said law is hereby repealed.

We could still have such a bill  though, only it would not contain the language referring to a higher power.  Since the Repeal of the Privacy Protection Act creates the false impression that there is no problem with publishing PMs, I believe this would be a good idea.

Why does the Atlasian law have double up on Forum administration. It exists over and above Atlasia and frankly takes the "Frankly, Scarlet, I don't give a damn" line when it comes to what the Atlasian government does. Hence why MasterJedi didn't and was right not to create a special exemption for Hammy and the boys as far as the NE assembly goes.

I will oppose any such attempt to restore the Privacy Protection Act. We have more to worry about then false impressions, and I think a better way can be found to combat such ignorance then restoring a flawed and potentially unconstitutional law.

I have instituted a new numbering system for amendments. Should I number all amendments regardless of what bill they are in order in which they are offered or should I start the numbering over for each bill.

Feline Protection Bill:
Senate Amendment 1
Senate Amendment 2

Do Not PM List Bill:
Senate Amendment 3

or

Feline Protection Bill:
Senate Amendment 1
Senate Amendment 2

Do Not PM List Bill:
Senate Amendment 1

The noticeboard currently reflects the first option while the Do Not PM list bill the second option. Which do you prefer? I like the first one the most.
