I wonder what would have happened to the executive of a company which caused a similar accident in the US.

Meh, Nobody* cares about what happens to Indians

*Nobody that can do anything about it. You get rich and powerful by being selfish in the first place. If you want to change the reaction, you need to change the entire system.

Yes, but I doubt any country would not have some sort of double standard.

I don't understand why they are mad at Obama for doing the right thing by making BP pay for what they've done. Its not Obama's fault that the Reagan Administration didn't give a damn about the 3rd world as long as communism was prevented. I agree that Bhopal was not given anywhere near the amount of attention or money it deserved, but the American officials who ignored it are probably no longer alive, so there's no point in blaming Obama for it.

I thought India had a closed to foreign competition, state-controled economy (with a democratic government of course) until the 90's, so its strange that Union Carbide was able to have a huge plant there as early as 1984.

Yes, Reagan should have pressured Union Carbide to create a Billion dollar fund for the victims of the Bhopal disaster. Reagan acted as expected when brown people are involved. Not sure how Obama is at fault here.

BREAKING NEWS:

Obama isn't the Messiah. Unlike the way he campaigned.

And if yes, why not, India could demand America to demand something to Union Carbide, trying to slap Obama while he already hardly tries to manage BP crisis, might not be very smart to obtain something, and not very fair as well.
