Seriously guys. Enough already.

Certain posters, Libertas being the best example but also with other posters such as FallenMorgan and BRTD have taken a completely one sided view of this. Everytime Palestinians are killed, the cliche left wing or libertarian types immediately cry out about 'Zionist oppression' and 'Israeli apartheid'. Yet, when Palestinian rockets fall on Israeli villages and children are murdered, they don't even care. They vary in their reasons why.

Israel has constantly tried to make peace with the Arab nations surrounding it. It was even willing to give up territory for peace, as it did with Egypt when it returned the Sinai in return for a simple peace treaty. However, Arab countries with help from countries such as Cuba and North Korea, have refused to even contemplate the idea of negotiating with Israel. Instead, they launched wars against Israel for their own nationalist causes.

I hate to put it so frankly, but the Arabs do not give a toss about the Palestinians. In the Arab countries, Palestinians are treated like dirt. They are basically second class citizens. So clearly, altruism isn't the Arabs reasons for supporting Palestine. Which can only leave the conclusion that they are hostile to the existence of a Jewish state in the region and wish to wipe it out. But nevertheless, there is no Palestinian resentment against Arab countries.

Certain posters such as Rochembeau and benconstine have stood up for Israel. But not nearly enough had. So I have to ask: Why? I'm sorry if my tone seems blunt, but I'm sick of the hypocrisy of the left and of libertarianism when it comes to this issue.

Kinda funny how you're supposedly a commie now but you're still deeply in love with the racist imperialist apartheid state of 'Israel'.

Thanks for ignoring the point. And  guess who supported the creation of Israel?

The USSR.

So are you back on the "right wing" then?

LOL no. 'Israel' is the aggressor, occupying what is rightfully Palestinian land. They are in no position to be dictating the terms of 'peace'.

I wonder who was ready to accept UN compromise back in 1948 and who rejected it all? Take a wild guess.

1. No, I'm not back on the right wing. I just hate Trots and other left wing 'hip' student idiots who think Palestine is always right
2. Umm, Israel has constantly tried to compromise. You're just reverting to cliche one liners now.
3. LOL. If someone oppresses you, you resent them. That's how it works. Unless you're Palestinian clearly.
4. No, it's just that more people need to realise Israel, though not always right, is doing its damned best and most of the blame lies with the Arabs.

The USSR.

Right, that lasted long. The USSR was strongly anti-Zionist for much of it's early history until the 1940s when for a few years Stalin supported the creation of 'Israel'. Then Stalin himself broke off relations with 'Israel', anti-Semitism grew rampant in the USSR, and by the mid-50s, the Soviets were consistently supporting the Arabs over 'Israel' and attacking Zionism as racism and imperialism.

They supported it at the time. So, unless Stalin isn't a communist, your argument doesn't work.

Also, I don't see why supporting a Jewish homeland and supporting the overthrow of capitalism are incompatible.

Well Stalin himself ended up opposing 'Israel', and the USSR was anti-Zionist for the rest of it's existence, so using a snapshot of 1948, when Stalin was expecting 'Israel' to be a socialist state throwing off the yoke of British imperialism, doesn't make too much sense.

Anyway, I don't really care enough to debate the point, but it's just funny to see that there are some issues you refuse to give up no matter how bizarre they are in the context of your new ideology of the week.

I'm sorry that I bash a country that has stolen land, violated international law, and waged preemptive wars of expansion.  That's only part of it.  I'm mostly just sick of the Israel Cheerleaders in the United States, who think we should waste billions nannying the country.

While I'm not pro-Israel by any means, I do get sick of issues, like this, where everybody here simply affirms each other and the other side is drowned out.

That line of reasoning is analogous to blaming World War II on Poland because they refused to accept Franco-British efforts to broker a compromise between them and Germany over Danzig and the Polish Corridor.

It's a battle you can't win.  Both sides are full of hard headed, close minded morons.

The subtle racism is pretty funny though.

The Israelis & Palestinians have both planted their roots in the area. Every death on either side is a tragedy, but it's not as if the Israelis had any business marching in & pushing out the Palestinians. I sort of resent the attitude in American politics that the Israelis are somehow innocent victims of the Palestinian aggressors.

No, neither.  But if you're going to bash occupying others' land, I'd start with the place you live.

Well in case you haven't noticed, I do plenty of bashing of the State under which I live too. Wink

However I would argue that 'Israel' is in fact an outgrowth of the U.S. Empire as well.

Jews were only about a third of the population of Palestine, and Arabs owned most of the land in every district.  The partition plan was entirely unfavorable to them.  Of course they rejected it.

Many Zionists accepted the partition plan, because it would be a step towards control of all of Palestine.  As David Ben-Gurion said, "[A]fter we become a strong force, as the result of the creation of a state, we shall abolish partition and expand to the whole of Palestine."

True, so why blame them if it's our own doing and you live in your society thanks to those very tactics?
