PO: more liberal than the PiS on social issues, more conservative on economic issues

PiS: more conservative than the PO on social issues, more leftist on economic issues

Kalwejt will certainly correct me if I'm wrong.

PO is also pro-European, PiS is Eurosceptic.

So...
PO supports both social and economic liberties, as well as the EU, while PiS is the opposite.

Basically, PO is liberal and PiS is conservative.

Xahar, you can't call PO "liberal" in American sense. It's centre-right. PiS is definitively right.

None of them falls into a category of left or Liberas (in American sense).

PO and social liberties? Don't make me laugh.

Socially, they're still on the right, when it comes to abortion, gay rights etc. etc. Not extreme as PiS, but still.

Also, we can't rate, giving Polish rapidly changing with every election political, landscade, call them "two major parties". Please avoid the impression of any "two party system".

Left, for example, was ruling from 2001 ro 2005. In 2001 they won in landslide and in 2005 barely survived. In 2007 they wasted all opportunities to comeback but recently are showing signs of improving. After 2010 presidential election, PiS, PO and SLD are basically treated equally, as three major parties.

Who said I was using the American definition?

They'll move left. It's just a reaction to having broken free of the faux communist government.

Consider the fact we're living in multi-party system which is always changing rapidly. In 2001 the right was barely alive for contrast.

And no, choice is much wider thatks to this than two right parties. Don't think it two party categories, like in U.S., for f**k sake.
