If a serious campaign issue has torched your campaign, and over 48 hours later, your spokesman isn't able to give some sort of stupid talking point response to The Fix, you're pretty much through.

I mean, hell, it could be revealed that your candidate murdered somebody back in 1994 and your campaign could come up with something about time served & self defense & second chances.

McInnis is acting defeatist.  Almost strangely defeatist considering the offense and the relative age of the offenses.  I can think of several candidates still engaged in very active campaigns in the 2010 cycle with far, far more scandalous and relevant revelations about their biography or character. One almost wonders how much more stuff is out there, and if there's an Oppo book containing another dozen drip, drip, drips!

As Chris notes, Colorado has hella stringent financing laws, and a new candidate is going to face a number of barriers unless he's self-funding, and serious self-funders tend to also make oppo books light up

He says he's "in it to win it" now.

But:

- We don't know if he was originally planning on resigning, but was convinced not to because of the problems in letting Maes win the primary or replacing him with a well-financed candidate this late in the game in a state with a $500 contribution limit

- We don't know if he might resign after the primary to get a self-funder

Isn't it funny how strict finance laws just enhance the incentive to find candidate who can get around them?  

NYC kind of reminds me of that, as we have great campaign disclosure laws, except if you're the richest man in the entire city who can write personal checks etc. of untold sums to political charities and political organizations that won't be revealed until after the election date.

NYC kind of reminds me of that, as we have great campaign disclosure laws, except if you're the richest man in the entire city who can write personal checks etc. of untold sums to political charities and political organizations that won't be revealed until after the election date.

     It seems logical, does it not? If you can't easily raise large sums of money from other people, it gives you an incredible advantage if you can get the aforementioned large sums of money from yourself.

And simply reusing a line from another speech in one of your speeches is quite different from passing off an article written by someone else as your's to a paper, especially if you get paid 300 grand for it as noted.
