There are 2 primary polls by EPIC/MRA and Glengariff Group:
Hansen Clarke: 44%
Carolyn Kilpatrick: 31%
Hansen Clarke: 38%
Carolyn Kilpatrick: 30%
Kilpatrick, who has nearly universal name recognition, according to the News poll, is viewed unfavorably by 40 percent of voters, while 46 percent view her favorably. In comparison, Clarke, recognized by 79 percent of voters polled, sparks far more positive opinions of Democratic primary voters: 57 percent favorable, compared to 4 percent unfavorable.
Kilpatrick narrowly won re-election in 2008 in a three-way primary amid fallout from the text messaging scandal of her son, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. She is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
The congresswoman heads into the final weeks of the race with a cash advantage over Clarke: $271,951 vs. $97,999, according to Federal Election Commission filings through June 30.
Clarke, whose state Senate district is within the 13th Congressional District, is also far ahead among the other challengers. Besides Kilpatrick, the next closest competitor is John Broad at 3.6 percent and Glenn Plummer at 3.2 percent. Vincent Brown netted 2.1 percent and Stephen Hume 0.6 percent in the poll.
