Anyone have a list? I imagine the home states of SC and AL will have influence, and others may have shifted a small amount, but are there any ones where race relations noticeably changed?

Most of the Thurmond Only towns in counties like Macon, AL and Jefferson, MS can be explained by the fact that in 1948, blacks were not allowed to vote. In 1968, for the most part, they were.

Yes, all Thurmond Only counties were majority black (in 2000, didn't look back any further) or in Thurmond's home state of SC, except:

                     black % in 2000
Richmond (GA) 49.8%
Shelby (TN) 48.6%
Halifax (VA) 38.0%
Madison (MS) 37.5%
Alachua (FL) 19.3%

I was hoping to find some counties where race relations had improved in 20 years. Unfortunately, only Alachua (Gainesville, U. of Fla.) is likely that case.

Any info on the Wallace Only counties?
