Kind of depressing given the giant swath of Green, but at least progress is being made.

The IFP is quickly becoming a non-player on the national level, but the DA is often limited to the votes of coloureds and whites. Blacks remain very loyal to the party that won them freedom, even if it is now a corrupt, party-state leviathan.

I think, that's, uh, common knowledge.

I am very happy with the progress the DA is making under Zille. Hopefully next year they take over Port Elizabeth and Pretoria, as well as win more municipalities and become a more viable alternative in others. That will set them up for a possible opposition coalition government in 2014 (I don't see the DA winning outright that soon), and greater progress and quality of life for South Africans.

What they need for a real national breakthrough is some Black businessman who can be the face of the party. Someone like Cyril Ramaphosa would be good if he would be willing to break with the ANC. In the meantime, as long as they keep doing well wherever they are in office, they should expand their support.
