Clarenden County, SC went for Gore in 2000, yet 88% of the vote was cast for Bush this election.....what is with the rapid change?

I'm not sure. I've seen a number of states like that.

Nothing beats Sequoyah County, Oklahoma, though: CNN temporarily had Kerry 99%, Bush 1% there, when Bush won it by 10 points in 2000. They corrected it later.

That was probably before much of the vote was counted.

Rural SC has extremely wide swings of voting trends between precincts, depending upon whether the precinct is majority black or majority white.  Incomplete county results here are of no value unless you know which precints have reported.

Yeah I never thought about that. Unless it is a statistical mistake, I can't see any other way it could change that dramatically.
