It's been a rough month since the Research 2000 fraud was exposed, but we're now ready to jump back into the polling game.

We've settled on two separate pollsters -- one to do our election horserace polling, and one to do our weekly State of the Nation national polling.

We're still not ready to announce the latter, since we're still dealing with some last minute negotiations. But we can announce our horserace pollster: Public Policy Polling (PPP).

We obviously wanted a credible firm to excise the ghost of R2K, but we also wanted an accurate one. Well, according to Nate Silver's pollster rankings, PPP was among the most accurate. Strip out the firms that focus on a single state (like U Cincy, Field, etc), and it's top 10.

Being the go to guys for all those random local news stations SUSA is always polling for is probably a pretty sweet deal anyway.

Yeah yeah I read that Meeker.  Kos's explanation makes it clear PPP was their best option.

PS: Daily Kos explicitly has no copyright protection on its posts.  It's totally safe to post them in their entirety as long as you give credit.

That wasn´t really a surprise:

Wow, PPP piles on... pretty strong words for a peer!

“I have thought that Research 2000 was faking its polls for a very long time,” said Jensen, whose Democratic-leaning firm uses automated calls to collect polling information.

Jensen credited Moulitsas and a team of researchers for scrutinizing Research 2000’s results to unearth questionable, recurring problems.

“There were things in their polls, that if you were polling the same races, they just didn’t add up. Their crosstabs never moved. Republicans always got three, five or seven percent of the black vote,” he said. “And when they were polling a race, I think they’d just copy what else was out there. They’d just rip off each other people’s polls. I thought they weren’t legitimate for over a year.”

They certainly aim to be in the boat with Kos ...

Wink

Anyway, i´m looking forward to many Senate and House polls and probably a weekly Mason-Dixon state of the nation poll.

Given the sheer volume of polling a robo-pollster seemed the obvious choice from a $$$$ perspective, plus one with a (D) and an active cheerleader function to the (D) side makes this an obvious match

If KOS had some serious balls he would have picked a GOP firm to really re-inforce the notion that these are real polls and not partisan ones, but I guess that will not happen.

wonder who will do the nationals? - Maybe he'll surprise us with a non-partisan choice.  POS would be a nice shock!

I still think he should have gone with Rasmussen.  But Rasmussen, like SUSA, is already bought by other media outlets.  He also isn't big on releasing raw data.

DailyKos offered to hire Rasmussen to do a poll before and they declined.

The money is already flowing into Razzy from the right.  Why have a leftist client? And why have a bias client if you are SUSA?

PPP has no real national identity right now outside of Nate Silver rankings.  They could use some Kossy.

Perhaps Rasmussen doesn't want an early grave.

With PPP getting the CO Gov. and Senate races on the GOP side wrong, do you think Kos will kick them out now like they did with R2000 for Arkansas ? ... Tongue
