I'm in.  If we're playing classic rules, I'd like Japan.  If we're doing Anniversary edition, Italy.

Gustaf: there's a freeware version called TripleA that has numerous different maps and scenarios.  It's pretty awful-looking, but it gets the job done.

What the hell, I guess I will be GM then. Tell your friends so we can get a game underway. Bacon King has first pick of countries, Mikado second.

If we do vanilla I can use my board game, otherwise I'll use the software linked to here (hint, link to it please!)

It is unofficial, however, you can download maps that match the official version.

Sure.  In fact, if you're interested in any of the four s**tty default modes in Axis and Allies (like the one Gustaf was complaining about), we could just set up a game online.  There's a poorly-done World War II (you can download a one that's truer to the game), a World War I that's bizarrely complex, a two-player World War II that's drastically simplified, and a capture the flag mode.

The classic Axis and Allies map is "World War II Revised."  The Anniversary Edition is "WW II v3."

Classic.  I'll be Japan.
