Someone else pointed out that you can't get a liquor license for a spot within 200 feet of a house of worship in New York.

I like one of the proposed names for the bar "Suspicious Packages"

I think it would be a great testimony to American pluralism: a 9-11 memorial, a mega mosque, and a gay bar, all within two blocks. Go for it! I like it!  Smiley

Amen! Smiley

But it's not a mosque.  It's an Islamic cultural center - or so claim the mosque's proponents.  And if there's no mosque there yet or a place has an existing liquor license...

There's no problem here—It's a cultural center that includes a mosque, but also serves other purposes.

Mosques in the United States are always called "Islamic Cultural Center" or "Muslim Association" or the like. I'm not sure why they do that, but the name doesn't change the fact that they're still mosques.

It's difficult to see how we can give Islam anymore respect, short of closing down all pubs, growing beards and beating up women who don't want to dress like nuns........ah yes, of course, silly me.
