That's the problem with the British economy these days. No one cares about Exports. (Universal Exports is the company Bond "works" for as a cover.)

Universal Exports?

Heh. I did note 'usual'; I know very little about Bond films Smiley

Grey text doesn't work like that.  Best off  throwing out a response to another random post in the thread you don't care about and tactically using your next post to take advantage of the white background

Oh hell, I didn't even see the gray text. And I thought I was being all clever by responding.

Er, and ... RIP Ted Stevens.

Oh, haha, I missed that in your post.  I guess it does work like that, mission achieved.

Well done Ernest, despite the RGB handicaps I immediately spotted*, well done.

And very ironic - considering he survived one before, when his wife was killed.

Hey Al, I already hit that well!

But even if we assume that irony = interesting statistically, I wonder how much that particular statistic stands out?  I assume to be a statewide politician in Alaska for whatever, 50 or 500 years that Stevens was in office, that he must spend a widely disproportionate amount of time in small, non-commercial planes over the average Alaskan, by, like, several orders of magnitude.

I've never heard of what flying in Alaska is like.  I only follow the politicians who have died while trying and have flown passengery over some mountains myself when I was a lad of 12.   I've never heard, but I've never really looked into, whether a large amount of planes there crash, and how dangerous that may or not be for Alaskan pilots.

It would fall under situational irony of fate, in my opinion (or I've heard people refer to it as "cosmic irony")>

Good response sir

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/cosmic+irony

the idea that fate, destiny, or a god controls and toys with human hopes and expectations; also, the belief that the universe is so large and man is so small that the universe is indifferent to the plight of man; also called irony of fate

This is pretty horrible. I was hoping he wasn't on the plane earlier today.

I suppose that, when you think about it, planes are technically a series of tubes.

He should have stuck to taking a truck.

I agree with Marokai for the record.

Anyway RIP but at least he got plenty of time. I still find it just too bizarre and wrong for a guy that old to die of non-natural causes.

Kalwejt I find your hysterical, crying-and-looking-up-at-the-sky-saying-why-god-why-behavior when tragedies happen to be offensive. You acted this way when President Kaczynski died earlier this year as well. Ted Stevens was a disgrace in addition to any corruption happened under his watch. Just because someone famous died doesn't mean you have to become their #1 Fan. The man was a U.S. Senator in charge of commerce and had no idea what the Internet was! He screamed at his fellow Senators for threatening to take money away from his fiefdom. He was no statesman, he doesn't deserve any RIPs.

Thank God someone has some common sense around here. Marokai did as well. My thoughts exactly.

Not to be too much of a hack on such a sad day, but I have to say this.

I hardly think Kennedy (I assume you are refering to Ted) was any better.

Ted Kennedy had Chappaquiddick.

Its partly because of sentiment like this quote from an unknown troll that I have no sympathy for Stevens.

Ted Stevens wasn't fit to clean the floors Ted Kennedy walked on.

Cubby, 96 people died in this plane crash and I used to know 4 of them personally. And as I remember very well, I made it clear: "RIP for ALL victims".

And you're wrong, regarding Kaczyński I had highly negative opinion before and never changed it. Just I believe that it's pretty good custom to keep things like "good riddance" or "he was a dick" out of saying at least at the day of man death.

And my avatar change? I feel some kind of nostalgy, as Stevens always entertained me. Beside, as a perso highly interested in U.S. political history, the Senate in particular, it's little sad always to see a part of his history to go.

And just ftr: Back in 2008 I was really happy for another D pickup.

RIP. I supported Begich two years ago, but this is a very tragic end for one of our longest serving senators.

As a casual thought, he lived a full life of public service, successfully fought off the government charges against him to avoid dying in a jail cell, and passed away in a non-torturous manner at the age of 86.

RIP, of course.

Don't worry.  To a Republican like Stevens, only anything to the right of waterboarding is torturous.

Honestly, unlike some assholes on here I am not shooting white love lazers everywhere over this man's death, but I'm not shedding any tears either.

So I guess I'll go with the "not black and white" option on this one.

The list of famous folks who die in plane crashes in Alaska has become quite long, starting with Will Rogers, and including Hale Boggs.  Sad. RIP Sen Stevens.

Maybe people shouldn't fly planes through stormy mountainous terrain at night?
