RESULTS OF ROUND 17:

Kasparov / Tal 1/0
Karpov / Capablanca 0/1
Tarrasch / Spassky 0/1

PROVISIONAL RANKING AFTER ROUND 17:

1. Kasparov 3.5
2. Capablanca 3
3. Tal 2.5
4. Karpov 1.5
5. Spassky 0.5
6. Tarrasch 0

My Godness, H*l* Sh*t ! I haven't well calculated all this... I wanted a final Tal/Kasparov... Sad
You're right, Edu, I should have voted for Tal, not Kasparov, here...
It's over for Karpov.
Tal needs both to win and Kasparov to lose to reach a tie...

Round 18 is now open, here are the matches:

Kasparov / Karpov

Spassky / Capablanca

Tarrasch / Tal

The next one...

RESULTS OF ROUND 18:

Kasparov / Karpov =/=
Spassky / Capablanca =/=
Tarrasch / Tal 0/1

RANKING AFTER ROUND 18:

1. Kasparov 4
2. Capablanca, Tal 3.5
4. Karpov 2
5. Spassky 1
6. Tarrasch 0

Kasparov has its qualification.

And we have a tie between Tal and Capablanca... who have made a draw between them.
But Capablanca managed to have a draw against Kasparov, while Tal was beaten by Kasparov.

So, with HUGE sadness, I declare that Capablanca wins this tie... Tal is out Cry Cry Cry

Please now vote in the final Kasparov / Capablanca.

(and pray that Magic is back... I don't want a tie !)

And, still, Tal received a bigger total of votes...
I'm so sad...

Isn't it fantastic ?
I say "pray" and Magic is back !

Well, now, I have a very hard question, Magic: would you have supported Tal for the final and then for the win ?

Tal over Capablanca?  Probably not; Capablanca had mad skills.

I was actually hoping for a Fischer/Kasparov finale, but I suppose the former's insanity ensured you guys wouldn't allow that, no? Tongue

I was the only one to try to defend Fischer against Karpov, so ask the others.
It was fun to have Fischer against Karpov BTW. I like Karpov too, but, in this game, he was opposed to players I preferred.

So, no regret for Tal, as he was my favourite number one.
I wanted a Tal-Kasparov finale, with Tal prevailing.

Let's see if Hans supports Capa over Garry. That won't be enough, but, still, our finale will be with all the voters of this survivor.

If he wasn't eliminated around the time that he was, there was a chance of him winning and I didn't want to risk that.  And yes, his insanity was a bit much (especially the anti-semitism).

RESULTS OF ROUND 19:

Kasparov / Capablanca 3/2

Kasparov is our champion !!!
Capablanca is its defeated challenger !

Hurrah for them !

Thank you for having taken part in this survivor, which I enjoyed a lot, though I would have preferred a final Tal/Kasparov or Tal/Ivanchuk, with Tal as a winner.
But I was a poor tactician...
