Axis and Allies Game II - Round 7 UK - FINISHED: AXIS WIN
«

So, new game, partly new players.
Soviet Union: Bacon King
Germany: Turin
United Kingdom: Bullmoose
Japan: Junkie
United States: MoPolitico
Below the dotted line is the post for the first game. In there you will find potentially useful information about rules, cost of units and so on.
-----------------------------------------------------
Ok, we're gonna go ahead with this so we get the show on the road.
Russia - Junkie
Germany - Bacon King
UK - Turin
Japan - Mikado
US - Turin
I'm pretty sure the rules we're playing with can be found here:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/downloads
You can PM your orders to me. I will not NMR people but try and be as quick as you can - I would prefer something like 48 or 72 hours for each player round (harsh, I know, but otherwise it could take forever!).
I think I will do the turns split in two, with technology, unit purchase and combat being done first and then non-combat+placing after. What do you guys think? Would you prefer all in one go? The first would mean less complicated contingency plans, but it would also slow down the turn sequence (on the other hand it might speed up the decision-making process for each part, which is why I favour it).
Also, when assigning casualties my default principle will be to do it in order of combat value. This is basically what you always want to do WITH THREE EXCEPTIONS.
1. When attacking, if you want to take the territory and the attack includes air units. You might then want to sacrifice air units in order to keep at least one land unit alive, since air units can't capture territories. If you want to "take at all costs" please indicate so, in your orders.
2. When defending, since certain units have low combat value but high production value (bombers being the best example). Since most attacks destroy all defending units anyway I will use my default, but if you want to try and protect certain units please tell me so by PM towards the end of your turn.
3. Naval battles, because they are a mess. Please just tell me in those cases if you want to make deviations.
EDIT: important point: if you want an attack to be stopped once you reach a certain threshold of casualties, then you need to specify so in your orders. Also, please note whether you want to submerge subs if attacked or not.
I will post stats and maps shortly and then wait for Soviet Union (Junkie) to open the game!
Reminder of costs:
Infantry - 3
Artillery - 4
Armour - 5
Fighter - 10
Bomber - 15
Industrial Complex - 15
AA gun - 5
Submarine - 8
Transport - 8
Destroyer - 12
Carrier - 16
Battleship - 24

So, guys, do you think the map size on the last two is acceptable? I'll leave the other to allow for an overview.
Here is also a stat table. It shows PUs, production capacity, number of units, total unit value and victory cities.
Russians 24 24 37 168 2
Germans 40 40 58 337 3
British 30 30 36 269 2
Japanese 30 30 40 283 3
Americans 42 42 34 252 2
Allies 96 96 107 689 6
Axis 70 70 98 620 6

Junkie has been commendably speedy in sending in his moves. I'm not currently at my home computer so I will get home later today and update.
Let's do this everyone!

Stalin had noted the bulge in the German frontline and decided to isolate the German forces in Western Russia through a bold pincer movement cutting through the German lines both in the South and in the North.
While the Northern attack was executed with precision, quickly wiping out the German defence, the assault on Ukraine proved to be a costly mistake with all Russia ground forces destroyed in the process, despite the overwhelming advantage on paper for the Red hordes.

After bloodying their noses, the Soviets quietly amassed their troops across the front, bracing themselves for the inevitable German counter-move and mobilizing some of their vast reserves of infantry ready for the slaughter, dividing the masses of meat equally between Stalingrad and Moscow.
Go Germany!

You're not doing too badly. You had a round of unlucky dice, but that could easily reverse. I would still say your defensive position looks all right.

We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the new world, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

Not wanting to be belittled by the bold pincer move of Stalin, Hitler decided to counter with an equally bold pincer move of his own. A large force was committed to an assault on Karelia and an even larger one to Caucasus. Emptying the human coffers of the Reich was necessary to facilitate an even more bold move on Egypt.
The combination of amphibious and land forces on Egypt took both the British navy and army by complete surprise and no casualties were incurred as the German forces steamrolled the hapless Englishmen. On the Eastern front things went well too, while German submarines continued to harass British transports, attempting to cut off Canada from the European theatre.
On the downside, German scientists got nowhere in researching the technology of future bombers. Perhaps they would have been better off working on the current bombers, given how those turned out to fare in battle...

Anglo-Egypt was a great win for the Germans, having the odds against them by a clear margin, yet winning without casualties. Caucasus was a win but it cost a lot - the bomber and one fighter were downed by AA fire. The rest of the German forces killed statistically, while the Russians did much better. Then the Germans went slightly sub-par while the Russians killed nothing, well below expected value. Both sides did well in the last round and Russian forced were depleted. Karelia was completely statistical.
Overall, a strong round for Germany, I'd say. Sorry to Lewis but I'm yet to find an easy way to paste over the dice rolls.
