Sorry if this repeats a thread.  I couldn't find one this broad and simple.  Gore wins Florida by 100 or so votes in recount.  Who runs and wins in 04 and 08?

Gore vs. McCain in 2004

Gore wins because he exploits the terror issue to his favor, like Bush did in RL, and he handles the economy better.

Lieberman vs. Romney in 2008

Romney wins because Democrats have been in power for 16 years and voters think Lieberman is a slimeball.

I have to think Bush would have run again and but may well have been scared off by 04.  I think there's a decent chance if Bush hadn't won in 2000, he'd be president right now or at least nominee in 08.

2004

Gore vs. Bush II
This time, it's personal.

This time 'round, GWB make brother Jeb his running mate, shoring up Florida. As president, the fact that Gore is BSC is finally exposed, and the Bush/Bush dream team ticket triumph.

2008

Bush vs Lieberman

Mr. Leip sells all his red markers on eBay. He ain't gonna need them.

2004:

Gore vs. McCain - McCain would win in a slim margin by exploiting the terror issue

2008:

Bush (McCain's VP?) vs. Lieberman - Bush victory in a landslide

I think McCain beating Gore is slightly more likely than Gore winning reelection, but I'll post two scenarios.

--McCain wins in 2004

2004: Gore vs. McCain

Gore narrowly loses reelection to McCain after he fails in capturing bin Laden and runs a lousy campaign.

2008: Mark Warner vs. McCain

Hillary declines to run since McCain is viewed as invincible in 2007. Warner wins the Democratic nomination and the general election due to the economic collapse.

---Gore Reelected

2004: Gore vs. McCain

Bush declines to run again pretty much for the same reasons Gore chose not to. Gore captures Bin Laden and McCain makes some campaign mistakes. Thus Gore is reelected.

2008: George Allen vs. Hillary Clinton

Allen wins the GOP nomination in a crowded field. Hillary successfully primaries Lieberman. Allen beats Hillary due to the economic collapse.

That. I mean, Bush got elected because of Kerry and exploiting the terror issue - and it's woefully naive to believe that somehow Gore would fail on terror.

2000: Gore v. Bush

Gore/Lieberman - 292
Bush/Cheney - 246

2004: Gore v. McCain

Gore/Lieberman - 303
McCain/Hatch - 235

2008: Clinton v. Allen

Allen/Bush - 300
Clinton/Feingold - 228
