http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/eyeon2010/2010/08/brooks-up-by-double-digits-in.html

Mo Brooks (R) - 48
Steve Raby (D) - 37

I don't know, seems kind of close for a Deep South district in this environment. It would be highly unlikely, or downright bizarre, if the Democrats picked it back up, of course.

I would have expected a bigger lead of around 20 or so, especially from an internal. This is part of TVA's territory and there are still some old era Democrats who will vote Democratic at the local level, so Raby will not get completely trounced here.

This district has never elected a Republican, EVER, so those are pretty good numbers.  Parker Griffith only got 52% here in 2008, so this seat is almost certainly in the Republican column.

Of course, that was a Presidential year; the top of the Dem ticket will do a little better, though not much better according to polls, than Obama this year.  There are numerous State House and Senate races that are very competitive within the district that will determine who controls the legislature, so those should be interesting to watch as well.  See the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 7th State Senate districts in particular.

Can this race be competitive??? I thought brooks was 20 or 25 points ahead. but 11 points is also difficult to overcome xD
