Let's just say that John McCain accepts John Kerry's offer to be his Vice-President. Bush keeps Cheney as the VP. How would the election have turned out? The same? Kerry win/landslide? I think the latter applies -

Kerry wins 359-179. That's just my opinion. What's yours?

Bush still wins. McCain joining the Democratic ticket would anger the liberals, and Al Gore would make the left seem united.

Kerry wins everything he won in RL + NM + IA + NV + OH. McCain would help Kerry with moderate swing voters, especially those worried about national security. The Democratic base would still strongly support Kerry due to Iraq, since they would feel getting Bush out of there would be more important than not having a Democratic VP. Thus, Kerry would narrowly win.

Apparently, you've never heard of Markos Moulitsas

I've heard of him, but his impact among the Democratic base is way overrated. And I think you're underestimating how much many liberal Democrats wanted Bush voted out in 2004 no matter what.

335-203

Any revolt among the left is more than made up for by moderate voters attracted by the credibility of a double-veteran ticket in a time of war.
