AG Kerry?
«

Ok, this is a bit 'out there', but an interesting idea which has crossed my mind nonetheless.
Bush has given a little lip service to 'reaching out', even though his actions have rarely matched his words on the subject. He is in need of a new attorney general (Ashcroft is retiring). Kerry has experience both as a procecutor and as a state AG. It might actually make real progress in healing our nations open wounds were Bush to appoint Kerry AG (or at least offer the position). What do you think - would this help, or is there too much hatered on both sides to even consider such a proposal?

Would be a great move for Bush, gives him another senate seat.

He's not noted as an enforcement officer. The "Senate Procecutor" title is overblown and ideology is too far off.

Why not appoint Kerry ambasador to Iraq? He would then be able to implement his smarter plan, and bring Europe into the coalition.

Whoever suggested Kerry as AG should slowly put down the crack pipe and go get some serious help. Talk about insane.

Actually, no, the Massachusetts legislature passed a law (overriding Gov. Romney's veto) stating that a special election would be held to fill Senate vacancies, rather than the Governor appointing a replacement. So if Kerry had won, his seat would not have been filled by a Republican, but rather there would have been a special election in the spring, with the Democrats obviously having a good chance of winning it.

Even were Bush's comments more than yet another hollow paean to bipartisanship, I can't see him appointing Kerry to the post. Attorney General Zell Miller perhaps, but not Kerry.

Its just plain stupid to think of Kerry as Bush’s AG.
However he would be a possibility in any future Dem Administration, it is his area of expertise and his positions with regards to the “war on drugs”, organised crime etc… are quite incisive.
Well I guess it’ll be up to President Elect Warner in 20??
(question marks? because if McCain runs the Democrats should just give up and concentrate on the Senate and the House).

Badnarkin...get a clue. Kerry as anything but the defeated former Presidential candidate is not in the cards. Not AG...nada. He is defeated, the loser, the pretender...the junior senator from the state of Massconfusion.

One thing that needs to be pointed out is we like to make stupid predictions here. It's fun.
It would be smart for Bush to put Kerry in some cabinet position as a gesture of bipartisanship. It doesn't have to be Kerry, but the guy knows his stuff to some extent and it would be a good idea to consider it.

Would Kerry offer Bush a position in his cabinet? This is absurd. Bush should not be obligated to appoint any Democrat. To the victor belong the spoils.

OK, so he definitely won't do it. Not that he would have anyway.

Apparently Bush is keen to offer John Breaux a cabinet post, as in 2000 I’d expect Breaux to turn him down, even though he’s no longer a senator and Breaux gets on well with Bush by all accounts if Breaux didn’t take it in 2000 after the 2002 Senatorial campaign (which was basically the entire Bush Family and GOP vs. Mary Landrieu with John Breaux backing her up to hilt) I doubt we’ll be seeing Breaux in Bush’s cabinet this time around.

Maybe Bush could appoint Kerry Director of Homeland Security if Ridge calls it quits. Lots of nice irony from the campaign in this idea.

Are you saying Breaux took Bush campaigning for Sen Landrieu's opponent personally? I seriously doubt that. Just politics. Breaux may not accept a cabinet position, but that will not be the reason.
That said, I don't think any sitting Democratic senator would accept a Bush cabinet post due to the possibility of a Republican winning a special election. Even in Mass. there could be a quality GOP opponent that will make it a tight race.

Bush should make Martha Stewart next the Secretary of Homeland Security since she's a professional when it comes to color coordinating.

Landrieu- now she's in trouble. Even an ultra-conservative, no free thought candidate like Terrell could have taken her out if it weren't for Breaux; Cooksey could have done it anyway, and hopefully Jindal WILL in '08 on Rudy/Arnold's coattails.
Breaux in the cabinet, though, that sounds great. HHS would be a perfect home for him; also freeing up Tommy Thompson to take Kohl down in '06.
