Thjat's a very good idea.

I think Leonardo da Vinci , Emperor Meiji (Mutsuhito) and Suleiman the Magnificent should really be in.

I'm less sure about Giotto, Darius I, Churchill, Charles V, Gandhi, Raphael , Ho Chi Minh and Ramses II. Probably more Giotto, Darius I and Charles V and less the others who were important only in comparison or in opposition to others.

About Sarah Palin too.
Oops.

Nebuchadnezzar II, Mozart, Rembrandt, von Braun probably don't deserve to be in, as they aren't so much "turning-point" figure.

Wonderful idea.

I'd like to submit Ibn Khaldun for consideration. I AGREE

What say you all about Akbar WHY NOT, Shi Huang Di already here, Gaozu of Han WHY NOT, and Kangxi PROBABLY ?  I don't really want to make the list more ruler-heavy than it already is, but I think we can agree they're more important to history than was JFK Yeah, he will have to go very early (and Francis Bacon too).

And do you agree on mines, Magic ?

No for Marie Curie: she was more an enforcer, not a real discoverer, like Planck or Einstein.
No for Pilsudski: the Soviet Union would have stopped anyway...
Why not for Walesa or John Paul II. I know I'd be the only supporter of the Pope, so let's go with Walesa, but I'm not sure...
As for Khomeini, I'm not so sure.

I really disagree that Gorbachev should be out: he made sure that violence didn't engulf all the East... that was quite a thing ! Andropov, Chernenko, Ligachev, Grishin, Romanov,Chebrikov, Gromyko: no one else would have acted as he did.

Maybe you can add Averroes too.
And Deng Xiaoping !

And Francis Bacon should really be out Wink. Of course, that's just a personal assessment of his real influence...

I'm not convinced about Pericles, as you weren't by Charles V.

I've also thought about Frederick Taylor .

I'm very surprised by Watt's elimination: bad or good, his work was so influential on our societies !
But, surprises are good in survivors !

BTW, has anyone already decided on his favourite ?
Or even a top 5 ?

As for me, not at all... maybe I should before having regrets!

I really find group D uninspiring, while I'd want to save almost everybody in groups C and E...

I suspect a bad end for my favourites (or for those I have for the moment...)...

I don't think that the group D is so bad, but it is very difficult to build the different groups. When I made it I must split all conqueror, statesmen, founder of a religion, scientists, artists etc. and then i must look where they come from and when they lived. This wasn't easy.

Fab, when we down at 50 historical figures then we have only 2 groups and then you can eliminate all from the group D Wink

Oh, I didn't intend to criticize: you've done a fine and great job.
And the fact that only the Old Guard of survivors (and the Young one with homelycooking !) is voting is really fine, as we are out of any stupid hack.
So, it's really a relief and a pleasure to vote here (even though many current survivors are smoother and less partisan).

That's just what I see: in one group, I'm really uninspired. In 2 others, I'm already worried by all those lil' guys that I want to save Wink !

When I see "strong" votes in favour of Voltaire (this old anti-semitic guy, so fine with the leaders who fed him...) and Descartes (so boring and so overvalued), I'm a bit worried for my weird and quite irrational favourites Grin...
We'll see !
I just hope musicians (except one Wink) and astronomers will be competitive

It's becoming really difficult now.
I think I've voted a bit too fast in this round... not really the good Chinese, maybe ! Wink

Constantine being ousted so early doesn't please me.
This is really one man of lasting influence.

It seems as if it'll be difficult for me to kill Descartes, Voltaire and Rousseau: in that order, they are really overvalued. My French parochialism is very limited... !
I'd like to kill Napoleon too, but he is of real influence, even if very, very bad outside (and completely mixed inside).

Meiji and Constantine in the same round, that's hard to swallow Tongue

Well, it's a very bad round... St Augustine's ousting is even worse than Moses.
And even if Edu saved Deng, it's at the price of Lincoln's elimination...
And Hammurabi is out !
My Godness...

A great round indeed ! Wink

I was joking when I said Edu would vote for Voltaire... just to have this good surprise !

Hans, I've already lost Deng, Giotto and Gorbachev, and Beethoven is threatened... So, I needed a good round ! Wink

You'll see that I support you on Ibn Khaldun. And, maybe soon, on Suleiman (though I'll try to attack Lavoisier before !)

Marx finished far higher than Smith (which is deserved here), so it's a victory for him, sort of Wink.

Mmmm... What is going to irritate me is Jesus Christ eliminated before Buddha and Muhammad.
He should go, right, but just after them.

Unfortunately, "not so good" Newton and Galileo (EDIT: and da Vinci !) will make it to the top ten because of our fight among religious guys.

(and you know what I think about Gutenberg)

Well, spiritually, that's another matter Wink

But, you're right in a way, and that's St Paul who should have gone just after Muhammad.

Maybe a Buddha-Jesus-Muhammad-St Paul series would have been better.

Anyway, I still have 4 of my top 10.

Beethoven (sigh...), St Paul, Kepler, Gorbachev, Mao and Hitler are out Grin
(no, don't worry, I didn't think Gorby, Mao... and... Hitler would last long... !)

Yep, Jesus is another one, but I won't tell the 3 others Tongue
(nobody cares, anyway !)

At least, Jesus is in the top 10.
What is even more annoying is the Planck's score...
Newton and Galileo deserve to go before him (Gutenberg shouldn't even be here, you already know what I think Tongue)

I really thought Einstein would win, with da Vinci, Buddha and Julius Caesar not far away.

Beethoven would have pleased me Wink
