Upper middle class; a good example that class is not seamlessly tied to $$$$$.

That is not a class!  You clearly have been skipping my class. Smiley By the way, what kind of net worth do you think one needs to have to be "rich" in your mind?

Skip me.

By rich, I'm assuming a net worth of over 1 million.

As for Realpolitik, lower middle class.

"Bourgeois" seems to define it well.

What are the attitudes of the Bourgeois class that give it meaning, and a certain commonality, so that Torie and Donald Trump can be fit into the same class, or Torie and the guy who founded Walmart, or Torie and Senator Coburn (none of whom with whom I think I fit)?  Or is it a synonym for lower middle class + upper middle class + upper class, plus sufficient money to live a comfortable life? Bourgeoisie to me seems more like a political term almost, than one of class in the American context at least. And then we have petite Bourgeoisie. Is there a difference between petite and non-petite Bourgeoisie?

Beet seems to be working class..

By rich, I'm assuming a net worth of over 1 million.

A million?  In 2010 dollars?  Torie giggles.

I can understand your giggling, but it is all a matter of perspective.  Only a very tiny minority of people have a million dollars, Torie.  (actually I'd be interested in knowing how few, but I'll bet its far less than 1%)

Probably about 7% or something have that much net worth, maybe 10%, if one includes the equity value in one's personal residence (and yes that number has gone down for most).  In any event, I am quite confident that at least 1% have a greater net worth than I do, maybe 2%. Make of that what you will.

This survey is out of date (net worth has probably gone down since then, including my own, by about 10% in my case despite all of my internal lines of defense, which I quite carefully constructed), but of some interest perhaps.
