I don't think we had any maps two years ago (a pity as New Zealand is an interesting place) so here are some now.

What makes Dunedin more lefty than the other cities (all of which have lefty parts but are not uniformly such)?

It's the poorest major city in the country; it's history has mostly been one of decline as economic and political power moved north. It's also the home of the University of Otago.

A friend of mine online once said 'Think of it as a giant Corby' - I'm sure there has to be some truth in that.

Do the Progressives have any feasible candidates to hold Jim Anderton's seat once he retires?

Thanks for the map...Later on I will make some Green/NZ First/UF strength maps.

A swing map would be very nice. Damn boundary changes.

Taupo and Rotorua (both centre of North Island) were Labour in 2005 but National by over 15pts (constituency) in 2008. But both were altered a lot in the boundary change.

For easy comparison (and because the overall difference was pretty small) I've used the same key as for the list vote.

This is another place where it's worth saying: great thread, even if I've no particular comments.

Thanks for the Maori map, and all the other maps as well!  Wow.  I didn't even know you could vote for the Maori party even if you're not on the Maori electoral list!
