A real nasty line of storms came through the NYC metro area.  Tornado Warnings were up in parts of Jersey, Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens.  Trees down pretty much all over the city, especially Queens and Brooklyn.  Lunar's Park Slope was hit extremely hard.  Queens was basically a complete mess.  A woman was killed on the Grand Central Parkway when a tree crashed into her car, massive trees down all over.  Traffic was backed up for hours and hours as main roads and side roads had nothing but trees down.  LIRR railroad service between Penn Station and Jamaica was suspended, the Port Washington Branch was completely shut down.  Anyone trying to get to the Met game had basically no way of getting there.  The announced crowd was about 28,000 (tickets sold) though about it was likely well under 5,000, and it the hundreds at the start of the game.

Weakened a bit as it hit Long Island near me, but still torrential downpours, very vivid lightning, just an extremely nasty storm.

Lunar's Park Slope was hit extremely hard.

I KNOW.  OMFG, store fronts torn off, whole streets where every single tree was chopped up, sidewalks torn up:

my roommate was making a tent on the roof of our building when the thing hit, I'm not sure why, but the tent is gone now, to say the least

Two tornadoes touched down.  One in Park Slope Brooklyn another around Flushing and Bayside Queens.  A macroburst in Forrest Hills Queens.

Lunar brings death and destruction wherever he goes.

Thank God I got out in time.  Being stuck in Penn Station for an hour is a nightmare, 6 hours or whatever is jump on third rail time.

Considering New York City's density, it sounds like you guys got off pretty easy. A tornado could have ripped apart one of those mega-huge residential towers you guys are so fond of.

I happened to watching TWC as the storm moved through. The line and bow echo pattern was more like a midwestern storm than one on the east coast. It was also strange to see the radar over NYC, since this type of storm in the midwest is often disrupted by large, dense urban areas, though we had a similar derecho storm with an EF1 tornado in 2007. The uprooted trees were very similar.

Two tornadoes and a macroburst, they originally labeled it a microburst, but corrected it to macroburst because of the length of the damage path.
