1960s Goldwater or grumpy 1980s Goldwater?

Both. Among other things, Barry was not a social conservative. Barry was not interested in religion.

The tea parties have little to do with religious social conservatism.

Right. That's why all of the Tea Party leaders are religo-cons.

What does it matter to you if someone believes in God? Is "religo-con" a new pejorative or something?

“Something beyond imagination is happening, something that is beyond man is happening.  America today is beginning to turn back to God.”
-Glenn Beck, Restoring Honor Rally

I don't care if someone believes in God, I have a certain belief of what God is myself.  However, it is inherent to a free nation that religious belief is kept away from policy that affects the entire population.  Christian "values" are absolutely central to the ideology of the Tea Party and the way they would like to run the country.

Christianity isn't a faith you have to fear really.

Considering that he famously refused to denounce the John Birch Society, which is/was far more "extreme" than either Glenn Beck or the Tea Parties have ever been, I'd say he'd probably have a positive opinion of them.

Correct answer.
