Yes, he's fat, has an eastern seaboard accent, but yes, assuming he does not get a coronary first, I think he will be POTUS some day, if not in 2012, then in 2016.  What do you think? Punch here. I mean, this man does not do focus groups, internal polls, media advisors, he just fearlessly lays it all on the line, and does what he thinks is right, and has a very pithy way of making his rather compelling points. How many other politicians do that, and have the beef?

Let's hope. He is possibly the best sitting Governor in the country right now.

He just got started.

Yep, no president Chris Christie until at least 2016.

He won't run in 2012, but 2016 is a definite possibility.  In fact, I just posted on this yesterday:

It will be intersting. I'm wondering if Booker will challenge Christie in 2013. Despite Christie's successes, it won't be easy for him to beat Booker.

That being said, I honestly think Christie would make a great President.

Christie 2016 is a big possibility. I think he'll take one term as Governor and then run for prez a la Romney.

Brooker would probably wait until Christie leaves to run.  He could probably beat Christie in a head-to-head race, but right now I don't think he actually wants Christie out of office.

Booker and Christie seem quite friendly actually.

As to whether he's going to be President, I sure hope not.

This might be the first and only candidate thus far that both Torie and I would agree on. Tongue

From a standpoint of pure personal ambition, he should root for Obama's re-election.

If a Republican is elected in 2012, probably the recovery is slow and unless it picked up a lot in 2013, Christie would be a good bet to lose re-election himself and then wouldn't be in the greatest of positions in 2020: a one and done governor who was last in office 7 years earlier.

But if Obama wins, that may well mean the economy is picking up and Christie's approvals with it, which would put him in a better position to win re-election and run for the open White House in 2016.

I agree that Christie should hope for an Obama victory in 2012.  He would be toast in 2013 if a conservative wins the White House.  He may just decide to forgo running for re-election if someone like Palin, gingrich wins.

How is that possible?  There'll be a Republican incumbent (Palin) in 2016.

I can't imagine him doing very well in the GOP primaries.

Really?  He's probably the best liked Republican in the country among the online right, after maybe Jim DeMint.  He'd have a fairly reliable base if he ran in the balanced-budget voters, and can effectively bridge the gap between the Tea Partiers and more Moderate Republicans.

I can't see places like Iowa and South Carolina going for someone like him. He looks like a mafioso. Plus, he's effectively ''pro-choice'' and ''anti-gun''.

Christie has quite an unusual stable of friends, including State Senate president Sweeney and even, to an extent, North Jersey political boss Steve Adubato. Virtually every controversial proposal Christie comes up with passes with a handful of cherry picked votes from the same urban Dem culprits ...

Booker won't challenge Christie and Christie won't be running in 2012.  I'd love to see Booker follow Christie as Governor and Christie move on to President pending continued success.  Christie's gotta keep things headed in the right direction to keep his star shining, which won't be easy.  Booker's already done that.  Newark's got a long way to go, but compared to just 10 years ago it's a completely different place.  I'm a huge fan of both these guys.
