I voted for Alcon. From pretending to support McCain to "Democratic college activist who considers himself independent," he just asks for the label. Grin

fezzy definitely isn't a moderate hero, though there was a time when he might have been one.

IMO, Franzl is the biggest moderate hero today, which is a shame.

Vepres is the opposite of a moderate hero. He bases his politics on pissing everybody off.

Nah, I'm just a horrible person Tongue

Alcon used to be pretty bad but he has evolved past it, I just wish he would openly admit that the planning on voting for McCain thing was a nonsense ruse he never intended on following up on especially since no one believes him on it any way.

I would be kind of interested in how you people define "moderate hero".

Somebody who comes to their positions largely using this logic:
Republicans support 100, Democrats support 0, so therefore 50 is the correct answer.

The Middle-ground fallacy.

Of course, for active politicians it is triangulating primarily for political gain.

But wouldn't that not apply in my case? I don't try for bipartisan (or multipartisan) support when I lay out my opinion.

Such as, I fully supported the public option in the healthcare debate, something that no Republican did (not counting Cao), and several Democrats didn't either.

Or my free trade position is quite extreme, in that I never oppose any free trade, ever. A lot of Democrats wouldn't like that.

So while it's true that I support some Democratic positions and some Republican positions....I think it's a pretty big lie to say that any individual view is based on gaining maximum support from "each side"....wouldn't you say?

Mainly people who go around bragging "Oh my God look how moderate I am!"

Many "moderate" Republicans, both on and off the forum, are like that.

Anyone who brags about how "such and such" they are is annoying.  I recall a time when you asserted your superior Republican-ness to me on a daily basis.  Same thing.

I'm not much a moderate, more moderate-conservative, but I appreciate the nomination. While I'm liberal on some issues, such as education, unions, and the death penalty, I think my very conservative position on abortion keeps me from winning a moderate hero award. Tongue I will say, I support more Democrats/Independents for Governor than I do Republicans, and only support 63% of Republican Senatorial candidates. Wink

I don't recall many people shouting about how moderate they are around here - although tmth's post above makes it look like he's trying to win this award. Tongue

I still haven't received an acceptable answer from anyone that believes I fit the title explaining what views I artificially change in order to be "moderate".

Other-yo mama.

She tries to please everybody (if we were to go by the definition that some people have of "moderate hero" here).

In a strict sense, you're not. I can't really say we have any TRUE moderate heroes here.

I tend to view moderate heroes as people who walk around supporting candidates or positions and then reminded everyone how moderate they are on their views. No offense, but tmth's post is a wonderful example of someone who is trying to appear moderate whether their beliefs match up or not (he's trying to shout I'M MODERATE even though he's far from it). Tongue

People are just picking on you, Franzl. Don't let them get you down. Wink

Definitely tmth who is always desperately trying to portray himself as a moderate voice of reason when all he really cares about is the game of politics and not actual policy.

He always supports "moderate" candidates no matter how awful they are (Murkowski) and goes all apocalyptic when they don't win. He then labels more conservative or liberal politicians as EXTREME, when he has his own extreme views on abortion and has expressed doubts about Obama's religion, birthplace, etc.

Basically I don't think he really knows what he believes, but likes to think of himself as MODERATE because it sounds nice and smart and doesn't offend people. That to me = moderate hero.

No offense lol

I just openly said I'm too conservative to be a moderate, so I don't know why you posted this.

Please give an example of when I go all apocalyptic when a moderate loses. Please also give an example of when I label more conservative or liberal politicians as extreme. You're not going to find any examples, because I don't do either of those. And if thinking a woman should only be able to have an abortion in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother's life is in danger is considered extreme, half of America is extreme.

I've also openly stated I believe Obama was born in America, which is a lot better than some on here. I don't think he's a Christian, but I don't think he's a Muslim either.

I know exactly what I believe, and I stand by those beliefs. I'm on this site to educate myself about political issues, and that's what it has done. Clearly you are only on this site to make baseless and pathetic attacks on indviduals. I do take offense, because you're statements were completely false and had no serious evidence backing them up.

lol

Gabu was one of the worst Moderate Heroes. My favorite bit was how he claimed to be a liberal yet supported school vouchers which is more right wing than over 60% of Utah voters.

Yeah, something supported by almost everyone in Sweden must obviously be crazy right-wing.
