It seems to me that the only Republican that can defeat Obama is Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. How many others agree or disagree?

Republicans wouldn't turn out for a former Hindu, son of immigrants, called Piyush Amrit Jindal. No way could he defeat BHO. Besides, Jindal's too extreme.

Yes, he could defeat Obama. But he's not running until 2016 at the earliest.

I think he should run in 2012 right now with this oil spill he, along with Haley Barbour, and Charlie Christ can attack Obama on his poor response time and use it against well as where a Romney or a Palin wouldn't be able to as well as Jindal

Just three days ago he said "I'm not running in 2012":

http://www.fosters.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20101015/GJNEWS_01/710159958

Keep in mind, Louisiana's gubernatorial election is in Nov. 2011, so there's no time to turn around and start campaigning in Iowa and NH after that.  He'd literally have to file the paperwork in NH while his reelection race is still going on.  So the only way for him to run for prez in 2012 is to not run for reelection as governor.

And that's not what he's going to do.  He's running for reelection for governor, and not for president.

No, he said he wasn't running in 2007 and ran in 2008, clearly.

He never said he wasn't running in 2007.  Heck, he set up an exploratory committee in January 2007.  Early October 2006 was when he first said that he might be open to running for president.  What you're probably thinking of is this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gexyfVpFMU

which was in 2004.

Anyway, we're late enough in the game now, that I think denials of interest should be taken more seriously.  Again, Jindal can't run for reelection for governor and run for president at the same time.  If he's planning on dropping his gubernatorial reelection bid and running for president in 6 months time, there's no reason for him to continue making these denials.

I would put money on Jindal in '16, assuming Obama wins reelection.  He needs two years as governor of Louisiana under his belt first.

He was elected in 2007, so he's currently in his 3rd year.  In fact, he ends his term right when major campaigning would start, so it's not a bad jumping-off position.

His first term would end in January 2012, right about when people will be voting in Iowa and NH.

He won't run. Iowa is only three...really two months after his re-election. 2016 he'll run if Obama wins re-election

Yeah, which means he can be campaigning for most of late 2011 while the focus in his state is on the election of his replacement.  Governors rarely do much in their last year in office.

I think Yelnoc meant two terms rather than years.

Echoing what has already been said, Jindal will be seeking re-election as governor next year. To have a shot at President, he would have to start campaigning pretty soon, and (even as popular as he is) people in La. probably wouldn't vote for him in 2011 if they knew he was planning on running for president in 2012.

That said, if not for the BP crisis, I'm not sure what I can say Jindal has accomplished so far.

No, especially since there are way better candidates for 2012 and even 2016.

Jindal is generally well liked in LA, but he does have a dedicated group opposed to him.

I fear Thune the most for 2012 or 2016.
