Also, Barnes, what kind of environmental controls would you want to include in the Fix Our Roads! Act? I'm strong on the environment as well, but I am not sure what kind of environmental provisions should be included in this bill.

Well, first off, don't think I'm criticizing your bill, Duke. Wink

Anyway, I think some more effort might have been put into mass transit system like electric rail.  Also, there should probably be a little more supervision over the project just to make sure those construction crew aren't ripping up an endangered species's habitat. Wink

Announcement:

I would like to welcome wormyguy to the race!

While we may disagree on opinions, I look forward to actually having an opponent, seeing as running unopposed is a bit of a slap in the face to democracy.

Barnes for Senate
Platform

Part Two: Ensuring stable and sustainable job creation

The one, undeniable issue to millions of Atlasians is whether or not they will have a job.

Over twelve percent of Atlasians are out of work, and hundreds of thousands more are wrought with fear every night that they might loose theirs, too.

While important measures have been taken to stem the worse parts of this recession, more action must be taken.  We must begin a serious, organized, and cooperative legislative campaign to create jobs in this country.

First, we must pass a new series of tax breaks for small businesses hiring workers.

Secondly, we must make a concerted campaign to advertise new job opportunities to those who are looking for work. People need to be able to know where to find jobs, and they need to be able to do efficiently, and quickly.

Thirdly, we can create thousands, if not millions, of new jobs in Atlasia by investing new fields like alternative energy, like I mentioned in part one of my platform.

Fourthly, while I strongly support unemployment benefits, we need to make sure that Atlasians are actually looking for work and are using every opportunity available to them to find a job.

In closing, we must devote ourselves to helping all Atlasians to find a job.  We must also restore fiscal sanity to the government by recognizing that simply throwing money at the problem won't work.  Instead, a structured and well thought out series of legislation will be the light that starts the fire of job creation in this country.

Do Keep in mind that a lot of those alternative energy investments that Obama made or would like to make but can't have been done in Atlasia over the years.

its a great plan inspite of that.

I am afraid advertising job isn't the problem as much as the inability to move to take a job due to housing prices, lack of money to fund the move etc etc.

Well of course. That's why the plan should be conducted mainly from a local and regional standpoint, with federal supervision, so as to ensure that people can find work in their own local communities.

Barnes for Senate
Platform

Part Three: Encouraging regional participation

In Atlasia, officeholders usually rise from the bottom up.  That is to say from an office like Assemblyman to President (i.e. Purple State).

Strong regional/local activity, is, in my opinion, crucial to sustaining Atlasia.

The federal government must try and get citizens more interested in their local governments. Four of the five regions have a form of citizens propositions that puts the power of law into every citizen's hand.

Also, every region has some form of legislative assembly, and while some are easier to be in than others, encouraging participation in these regional law making offices will show a huge increase in activity in Atlasia.

Barnes takes the platform in front of a few die-hard (drunk) supporters, seeing as the rest left to go to sleep.

Well, everyone, it seems like I've actually done it!

First off, I'd like to sincerely thank my opponents for running a competitive and interesting race. I fully recognize that, while a majority of Atlasians supported my platform, a very large chunk voted for the alternatives. I completely respect this, and I hope that I'll be able to work for goals lauded by both sides of the isle.

Secondly, I'd like to give a huge amount of thanks to all of my supporters. Literally, without you guys I wouldn't have won, and probably wouldn't have run in the first place! Wink I am deeply grateful to you all.

Lastly, I'd like to remark on just how clean this race was run. There has only been one disqualified vote (and that was for me! Wink), and, I believe we were able to clear steer of the usual headaches Atlasian elections cause.

With that, I would once again like to give a huge thank you to all of you, and wish you all a good night.

Because, tomorrow, I've got work to do. Wink
