I have a question.

I'm planning on doing a Chess world champions survivor but i don't know if here would be the correct place to make it. If it were me i would do it here because Chess had historically a very politically charged past, especially during the cold war.
But i'll wait to see what Fab thinks about it and of course i would probably do the survivor a few weeks from now Wink

Good heavens ! I'm outrageously jealous !!! Wink
How could I forget this brilliant idea !!!

Do it HERE, Edu, that's an order ! Wink
More seriously, like great composers survivor (which unfortunately didn't meet his success), I agree on including this survivor in this child board as, of course, Chess world championships were highly political matters (and remain, when you see how Russia is back with its shenanigans and old tricks and Iliumdzhinov tries to control everything for his own intesrest).

I have 2 requests, though, Edu:

1- I won't be able to have an Internet access between, probably, the 17th and the 24th of April. I would be very, very grateful if you make sure this survivor will end before the 17th or start after the 24th, because I would really be FOND of this one and wouldn't want to miss any round !

2- After 1993, please take both FIDE and PCA champions, even if FIDE ones were minor ones. But it will make things more interesting and the list a bit longer.

Great idea, again !

Thanks, i figured you would be interested Smiley

It was my plan to include Khalifman, Ponomariov and Kasimdzhanov because while it's true that the championships they won were notable for the absence of a lot of top players (including probably the top player in the world at the time) and that FIDE isn't exactly a "clean" organization (Campomanes and Ilyumzhinov, nuff' said Tongue) they were official world champions so it would be a disappointment if i don't include them (though i don't think they will get very far in this survivor Grin)

I'm not going to include some of the players that were considered amongst the best of the world before the Official championships (like Morphy, Andressen, Staunton or La Bourdonnais). This survivor will start with Steinitz. Of course if people want them i could include them Tongue

By my count, this will be a relatively short survivor with only 19 names. So, to accommodate Fab, I'm probably going to start it this weekend Wink

I'm worried about the turnout though, I can count myself and Fab (Maybe Hans too) but i don't know if anyone else would be interested

OMG.
Well, tb75, all this work for nothing ?
That's a pity, it was well managed until the George Clinton/Bush Sr tie. And even with your weird tie-breaking, voters were still here.
Or did you want so strongly a Bush Sr victory ?
Survivors are very harsh, sometimes... Wink But it's a game !

I don't really understand why would someone go trough all the trouble of starting a survivor if he can't stand his favorites being ousted, it seems pointless.

Even though i complained about Libertas in the past i must say that despite some dodgy delays and votes he at least accepted when one of his favorites was ousted and never deleted the thread because for instance Coolidge was ousted in the republican nominees survivor. Plus when someone complained he usually addressed you explaining what happened, tb75 just decided to ignore everyone and call people spammers. Pretty pathetic actually, especially considering he is 17 and should be a bit more mature about all this instead of having a hissy fit.

And yes, it's just a game, most of us will move on and keep trying to make interesting survivors and enjoying our time here Smiley

And i haven't forgoten about the chess champions survivor, i still have a few days to start it and hopefully next week at the most i'll make it Wink

lol i saw the republican tickets survivor.

There was a reason i stopped voting in his threads. If he is willing to manipulate and make up votes to let his favorite keep going and then when confronted with it just deletes the thread then i was sure that it was bound to happen again, or at least something similar.

And this is all the more amusing considering that in the VP survivor i repeated lots of times that i tried to oust Bush in an effort to oust every president and keep a real list of people who were only vice presidents, I thought it would be more interesting. I didn't do it because i hate Bush or whatever the hell the guy thought i was doing, i actually consider Bush one of the better republican presidents in the 20th century.

I come here to have a little fun, which i guess is the point of this subforum, apparently some people don't understand that and act in a pathetic way. I stopped posting in his threads and it's much better Smiley

Yep, deleting an entire thread that was halfway done when one of you favorites is voted off is a "simple action". In terms of real life it is indeed a simple action and i don't think that in the end people keep thinking in it after they log off the forum. But games need some kind of rules to function properly and in good fun and then what you did wasn't a simple action.

But i agree with you on one thing, we should stop talking about it. I would advise people who are annoyed with what you did to stop posting in your threads. This way we can concentrate on the survivors we like and you can continue with yours with no problem.
So this will be the last time i bring this up in your threads, you won't here a peep from me Smiley[/quote]

As far as i rememeber he has the party candidates, the state mottos and the New England counties survivors.

New England Counties is pretty gruelling...and you have a long way to go on it. I'd love to see it finished, but you might want to change the rules to keep it moving along.

You are probably right. To be honest, i'm not that interested in that survivor anyway Tongue

I think i'll take Fab's suggestion and tomorrow (well, today if it's already sunday for you) i'll start the presidential candidates survivors from scratch Smiley
They will be my first tournaments managed, i'm so excited Grin Tongue

Well, i just posted my opinion about the current controversy in the other thread so i come here to say something completely different.

Tomorrow i'm going away on a trip, so there is a chance i will be less active, i'm just saying this so that if i don't connect you don't worry or keep open survivors so i can vote, you just have to go on without me Grin
Hopefully I'll still be able to connect to the forum every day, but i'm saying this just in case.
Everything would go back to normal on the 25th Smiley

Well, homely is gone. Hans seems to have some problems and hasn't connected in one week.
Cinci sometimes forgets to vote.
You don't vote in my wonderful survivor Tongue.

Again, maybe it's due to calendar's problems.
But I must acknowledge I'm beginning to be worried Sad.

Maybe we should start some simpler and more classical survivors: South Amercian countries, US secretaries of State or of Defense, etc., to appeal to other posters.

I'm myself quite busy and I don't want to start a "simpler" survivor for the moment, besides my Women one.

I must be frank, this board (and the survivors) lasted longer than I ever thought they would last. Seriously, we have been doing this for about 2 years, right?. I thought it would be a lucky board to survive a year and I was wrong.
There were interesting discussions and epic survivors here, but the fact is that there was going to come a moment that we would be saturated. Original survivors are harder and harder to do and this is the internet, home of the short attention spans.

I'm proud of being a regular poster in this subforum, i think Fab is a great moderator and certainly hope that the administrators will keep the survivor subforum intact.
is the place going trough some hard times? Yes. The place will be dead forever? I don't think so.
Again, this place lasted longer and had interesting survivors longer than what I originally thought it would last, so i'm confident that once a few months have passed, posters (especially regulars) will be hungry for new survivors and i know I'll be here for them Smiley and if not, I'll keep great memories from all that happened here.

And yes Fab, maybe for now we should do simpler and straightforward survivors like you mentioned, probably we should do more US survivors of any kind to keep the place going.
