Overall good, even if it's a bit of a mess and far too unregulated.

I take it you haven't bothered to find out what happened there?  Oh right, you don't need to.  Unregulated is a buzz word for Libertarians, it's just automatically good.

Which event are you referring to?

The drugged up people in the '70s dying all over the place and the dangerous living conditions and heroin being sold on the street.

True, drugs shouldn't be sold on the street, they should be treated like alcohol.

Well, things like heroin and other extremely hard drugs need to be very heavily controlled if they're going to be legal.  Far too much went unchecked there leading to numerous dangerous situations.  Mixing drugs, low quality product, dirty needles, "spiked" drugs, etc.  So I think you're right, an alcohol situation would probably be best.  The problem now with these little pockets of free sale of drugs is that there is no accountability or transparency.  No one knows where the stuff comes from or who's getting it or anything because the rest of the industry is underground.

Technically, but every time they go in and raid everything it only takes a couple months for it to go back to normal I've heard/read.

Not really my kind of place, but I don't know enough about it to have much more of an opinion than that. Isn't it being cleared out soon anyway?

Fezzy, I was in Freetown Christiania over Spring Break and I asked a bunch of Danes (non-Christianians) if one could purchase even acid/mushrooms there and they said no. There are signs as you enter that explicitly forbid hard drugs, firearms, etc., for what it's worth. I was actually there during a police raid; someone blew this whistle and literally all the drug dealers took their sh**t and went inside. But it turned out to be a false alarm.

But yeah, it's truly one of the most fascinating places I've ever visited. Most of the vendors are Greenlandic eskimos who sell hash/weed/splif joints inside these red test tubes. I let my Danish friend do the talking (and haggling), but they seemed friendly enough. I actually accidentally brought a test tube with like 1/4ths of a smoked joint back so I now have this nice souvenir.  There are kids playing on the streets and couples walking around, enjoying the relaxed and jovial atmosphere. Fires are aglow in various trash receptacles, with small crowds of people huddled around them smoking joints and cigarettes. If you just want a puff or two, just go up and ask for one. The quality of the products there is absolutely ridiculous. And cheap too! I was able to get like 4 grams of danky dank for 200 DKK or $36.

It literally blew my mind. There is no way anything even remotely like it could exist in North America. We're just not rich, white, attractive, and secular enough, I guess.

Biker colors.  They had an incident with bikers, who took over the cannabis trade before being kicked out.

Those guys are awesome.
